JOB DESCRIPTION:
Job Summary: Under general supervision, this position is responsible for contacting patients to schedule surgeries, provides patients with an information package outlining pre-operative orders and discusses details regarding surgery date and location. Schedules anesthesia and assists with the surgery facility and contacts the insurance company to verify eligibility and benefits.
Job Duties:
- Processes the surgery order form received by the Medical Assistant by writing out any pre-operative orders such as labs, EKG’s, etc. and prepares an information packet for the patient that the patient is given.
- Meets with the patient (one-on-one or calls) to discuss pre-operative orders and the schedule, enters the date and location in the computer.
- Contacts and schedules the surgery facility, anesthesia and assists (if needed).
- Contacts the insurance company to verify eligibility and benefits, coordinates any deductibles over $500.00 with the ASA billing department.
- Enters all authorization information into the computer under the authorization tab.
- Work closely with doctors and MA’s to assure a smooth surgery process. Calls patients the day prior to surgery to confirm check-in, location and NPO.
- Protects patients’ rights by maintaining confidentiality of personal and financial information in order to comply with HIPAA and Practice requirements.
- Performs all other duties or assume responsibilities as directed by the supervisor, physicians or other staff to maintain the office flow and support the goals of the Practice.
Skills and Qualifications:
High school graduate or GED. Minimum of one (1) year previous surgery scheduling experience in a general surgery/plastic surgery setting preferred. Knowledge of insurance plans, medical terminology, medical office software and patient billing. Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate clearly and concisely. Able to multitask, prioritize work, be flexible and detail oriented, and a team player with a positive attitude. Maintain a high level of patient confidentiality.

Pay: $20.00 - $22.00 per hour
