DSHS WSH Registered Nurse 4 (Clinical Risk Management Director)
Western State Hospital in Lakewood, WA, is currently seeking a Clinical Risk Management (CRM) Director. As the Clinical Risk Management (CRM) Director, you are responsible for the oversight and implementation of all clinical risk management activities within the Civil Center of Excellence. You will play a vital role in supporting and informing decision-making in its proactive involvement in reducing risks to an acceptable level by creating a culture founded upon assessment and prevention of harm. You will use your skills in planning, organizing, delegating, and supervising as the position operationalizes knowledge of organizational policies, procedures, and systems. As CRM Director, you ensure proactive and reactive reviews and assessments are conducted.
As CRM Director, you'll ensure a structured and systematic risk management process and effective communication and consultation process to all stakeholders. You also provide systematic analysis on the nature of risk and its characteristics and serve as a resource for reporting data on clinical risk trends and its impact on care delivery, policy, and procedure reviews. You will ensure the Root Cause Analysis is initiated related to serious reportable events and ensure findings are reported to Executive Leadership within the required timeframe. You will be responsible for reporting cases of abuse/neglect found credible, comply with reporting requirements for Serious Reportable Events to the WA State Department of Health per State and Federal regulation for inpatient psychiatric hospitals.
Opportunities performed onsite at this work location at least three days a week may be eligible for an additional 5% premium pay in addition to the advertised salary. Free ORCA cards are available for Pierce County employees.
Some of what you’ll do:

Implement the Clinical Risk Management (CRM) program in the Civil Center and establish/implement goals, objectives, policies, procedures, and systems for the CRM in alignment with the organization’s mission, vision, and values.

Perform hospital-wide Quality Assurance Performance Improvement (QAPI) functions of assessment and interpreting quality of care, identifying, and reviewing patient safety events, patient injuries and injuries of unknown origin, allegations of patient abuse, neglect, and exploitation.

Identify variances in systems and processes, potential Sentinel Events, and other clinical risks. Conduct in-depth reviews of identified risks and provide recommendations to leadership to improve patient safety and quality of care.

Participate in CRM Team reviews. Evaluate problems and develops a plan.

Chair the Risk Management Committee of the Civil Center.

Report cases of abuse/neglect found credible and comply with reporting requirements for Serious Reportable Events to the WA State Department of Health per State and Federal regulation for inpatient psychiatric hospitals.
Who should apply
Professionals with the following:

Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing and four years of professional nursing experience including two years in a lead capacity over other nursing personnel.

A valid Washington State license to practice as a registered, professional nurse.

A bachelor’s degree in nursing or higher degree involving major study in nursing may be substituted for two years of non-supervisory experience.

One year of full-time experience teaching nursing may be substituted for one year of supervisory experience.

Three years of experience working in a Clinical Risk Management or Risk Management capacity.

Two years of experience in a supervisory or managerial role.

Five years of experience working in an inpatient psychiatric hospital.

Knowledge of CMS, WAC and RCW regulations related to inpatient psychiatric hospitals.

Experienced in conducting medical chart reviews

Strong leadership skills

Proficient in reading, writing, and communication skills
Knowledge of principles of risk management or experience with team-oriented decision-making regarding Clinical Risk Management
