Position Summary:
The Unit Manager primary responsibility is to oversee that staff delivers safe and therapeutic nursing care using the Nursing Process and in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act, DOH Regulations, State Regulations and the policies and procedures of Fair Acres.
Responsibilities:
- Supports the facility mission and culture change.
- Customer Service focused. Meets, talks to and builds relationships with residents, families, and employees on routine basis to identify areas of concern, implements measures to meet needs, and evaluates ongoing satisfaction.
- Performs routine rounds with employees to assure accountability, provide education where needed and offer positive reinforcement when warranted.
- Promotes a team environment.
- Meets routinely with new employees during probationary period to evaluate performance and to offer assistance in areas identified.
- Routinely evaluates the work site to assure that employees have the equipment they need to perform their job in a safe environment.
- Evaluates that employee are trained and competent in the operation of equipment required for their job responsibilities i.e. Accucheck procedures, lifts, etc.
- Reviews various reports and utilizes the information to evaluate appropriate care and services.
- Conducts monthly meetings with all employees on all shifts on the unit, for all shifts pertinent information related to the facility, department, job function, status of unit etc. and solicits input to improve the outcomes for the residents and employees. Meeting agenda and minutes to be forwarded to Nursing Administration.
- Participates in IDC and behavioral meetings.
- Participates in committees.
- Maintains over-site of Unit Secretaries, ensuring that labs, procedures, follow up appointments are completed with appropriate follow up.
- Communicate critical issues with Nursing Administration on routine basis regarding issues, concerns, or challenges and intended plan of action to correct outstanding issues.
- Routinely audits and evaluates outcomes of high risk, high volume and problem prone procedures, i.e., Medication pass preventative skin care, fall, etc.
- Coordinates with the interdisciplinary team
Working Conditions:
Will include weekends and holidays on rotating basis.
Qualifications:
RN from an accredited School of Nursing, BSN preferred.
PA RN License
3 Years in Long Term Care; supervisory experience preferred.
