Position Summary
OncoNano Medicine, Inc. is a clinical-stage biotechnology company working to transform cancer therapeutics with its proprietary nanotechnology platform. The Contract Chemist is responsible for functioning very independently to execute synthetic chemistry/polymer chemistry related workplan for a complex therapeutic drug delivery/nanomedicine project. This position offers considerable opportunities to leverage and develop skills in benchtop scientific research and drug development. It is critical that this individual be highly organized with meticulous project planning skills and strives in a fast-paced environment. The prospective candidate will have the opportunity to work in a highly productive multi-disciplinary environment with a team of experts in pharmaceutical science and translational research. We are looking to hire the Polymer Chemist/Synthetic Chemist on a contractual basis.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
The primary duties and responsibilities of the position [although not inclusive] are summarized as follows:
- Independently design, organize and conduct highly specialized and advanced studies using synthetic chemistry/polymer chemistry knowledge and skills for a highly interdisciplinary drug delivery/nanomedicine project
- Design and synthesize polymers and polymer conjugates
- Explore and optimize polymer, polymer conjugate purification methods
- Characterize polymer, polymer conjugates physico-chemical properties using HPLC, NMR spectroscopy, Size Exclusion Chromatography, Light Scattering, etc
- Assist formulation development for efficient drug encapsulation using pH-activable polymer-based composition by various encapsulation methods
- Document research results in appropriate records, reports and manuscripts
- Communicate research results at team meetings either in written reports or presentations
- Search pertinent scientific literature as needed
- Assist with ordering and procurement of supplies and equipment and with general maintenance of laboratory
Minimum Qualification Requirements
- Master or PhD in chemistry or a related field including but not limited to organic chemistry, polymer chemistry, material science, biomedical engineering, biotechnology, nanomedicine, pharmacology, etc
- At least two years’ experience in synthetic chemistry or polymer chemistry is a must
- Ability to work with chemicals and biological materials and chemicals in a safe, organized, and neat manner, with attention to detail
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office software and general computer operations
Other Preferred Skills and Qualifications
- Ability to independently operate chromatography (e.g. HPLC)-based analytical instruments and develop relevant analytical methods is a plus
- Experience with nanomedicine formulation and drug delivery-related techniques (drug encapsulation, nanoparticle characterization) is a plus
- Strong communication skills (both written and oral)
- Possess an inordinate focus on details
- Ability to meet deadlines and prioritize and manage multiple tasks, with enthusiasm and without jeopardizing quality
- Exceptionally adept at learning new concepts with a keen desire for new challenges
- Ability to work collaboratively
