POSITION SUMMARY:
Under general supervision, is responsible for routine maintenance and repair of heating and air conditioning equipment. Work is performed in accordance with general instructions or planned preventive maintenance schedules. This position may be filled as a Registered, Certified, or Contractor HVAC Technician.
REGISTERED HVAC TECHNICIAN ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Learning from the HVAC Technician and completing all assigned duties
- Identifying, analyzing, troubleshooting, and assisting with repairs of HVAC equipment
- Traveling to various facilities throughout the city to assist the HVAC Technician.
- Ordering replacement parts and equipment as needed.
- Completing HVAC replacements and carrying out various maintenance tasks.
- Communicating with customers in a professional, courteous manner at all times.
- Performs visual inspections and preventative maintenance on building equipment.
- Supervises vendors when work is contracted out.
- Creates ROs for purchasing supplies/materials; picks up supplies; maintain HVAC supplies/inventory
- Assists in installation and maintenance work when necessary.
- Operates man-lift and bucket truck
- Participation in the 24-hour on-call services provided by Facility Services.
- Perform related duties and fulfill responsibilities as required.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of principles and practices of HV AC equipment design.
- Knowledge of pressure charts, gauges, tools and equipment used in HV AC equipment repair.
- Knowledge of installation and maintenance
- Knowledge of city, state, and federal code standards and regulations.
- Skill in performing thorough and accurate HV AC maintenance practices and inspections.
- Skill in operating and maintaining automated HV AC building controls for heating, ventilating, air conditioning, and allied mechanical equipment to provide comfortable temperature and humidity in city buildings
- Skill in performing repairs on a variety of HV AC systems
- Skill in connecting HV AC equipment to electric power source, wire thermostats, connect water supply and drain lines.
- Skill in reading and interpreting refrigeration pressure charts and gauges electric, temperature and humidity meters and recording equipment.
- Ability to perform calculations necessary for HV AC work as well as calculations necessary for invoicing purposes.
- Ability to communicate and work in cooperation with Supervisor on priority of work assignments.
- Ability to work with CMMS systems to record and document all work related functions
- Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams and schematics.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to perform all the physical, intellectual, and analytical requirements of the position including decision making.
- Ability to work with other tradesmen inside and outside city employment
REGISTERED HVAC TECHNICIAN REQUIREMENTS:
- Requires High School Diploma or GED
- One (1) year of related work experience
- Valid Class C Texas Driver’s License
- Registration with the Texas Department of Licensing & Regulation as an HVAC Technician, or the ability to obtain within three (3) months of hire.
- CJIS (Criminal Justice Information Systems) Clearance Certification – must pass upon hiring.
