JOB TITLE: Commercial Rating Specialist
JOB SUMMARY
To provide critical support to the submission process by handling the booking and issuance functions for policies. Accountable for evaluating, rating and processing submissions to the insurance carrier utilizing specific underwriting guidelines and principles necessary for issuing or reviewing insurance policy according to established procedures.
SKILL REQUIREMENTS
Occupational Specific: Knowledge of commercial lines rating preferred, Computer skills, typing skills, 10-key calculator
Technical Specific: E-mail, Internet Explorer, MS Office, Lotus Notes, ability to use agency management system preferably AMS360 and rating system.
Personal & Professional: strong analytical, math and organizational skills, attention to detail and accuracy with good follow through skills, excellent communication skills, listening skills, time management, able to work in a dynamic team environment, writing skills.
TASK DESCRIPTION
- Responsible for rating policies based on information received appropriately applying rates, factors and coding necessary for issuing, renewing or rewriting commercial lines insurance policies using the rating system.
- Process documents for policy issuance, renewals or rewrites in a timely and accurate manner.
- Calculates amount of premium charged for various types of insurance for input into the rating system or for providing premium breakdowns to the insured or for providing additional cost of an endorsement.
- Maintain familiarity and solid understanding of policy coverages, class codes, rates, classification, policy forms, rating rules and regulation amendments, underwriting guidelines, eligibility requirements including recognizing exceptions to guidelines.
- Responsible for setting up new customer file in the agency management system and ensuring binders and bills have been issued or delivered to the customer.
- Responsible for policy checking to verify accuracy of policy received from carrier against submission including sending correction endorsements to the insurance carrier.
EDUCATION & TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
Minimum High School or equivalent required. Some College or general insurance classes preferred.

Physical Duties and Working Conditions:
General office and computer work. Occasional lifting of up to twenty five pounds. Constant standing, sitting, and walking. Occasional twisting, bending and reaching. Ability to listen to and comprehend both written and verbal communication to and from co-workers and clients.
