Job Title: Analytical Chemist (Entry Level)
Position Summary
An Analytical Chemist provides support to GC Analytical laboratories by independently performing sample and standard preparation and analyses on any samples analyzed by the laboratory. An Analytical Chemist will display good laboratory skills and an understanding of basic chemical principles and fundamental analytical chemistry techniques. She/he will operate and maintain instrumentation, define and measure quality metrics and report results in an appropriate manner. He/she will participate with senior personnel in refining current techniques, troubleshooting problems and documenting processes, procedures and results. The Analytical Chemist will adhere to all Quality Systems requirements defined by GC Analytical Laboratories Quality Documents specific to ISO17025 requirements.
Essential Technical Responsibilities and Duties
- Properly apply rudimentary chemical principles and standard laboratory procedures to sample analysis.
- Using written or oral instructions; accurately prepare samples and conduct routine chemical analyses daily as scheduled in collaboration with senior personnel.
- Independently operate various standard analytical instruments and perform basic maintenance according to established methods.
- Assist senior personnel with troubleshooting, advanced maintenance and calibration on analytical instrumentation.
- Individually record, collect and review electronic experimental data and communicate results to appropriate parties.
- Support and assist chemists on improvement to analytical procedures using existing equipment.
- Utilize computer software and spreadsheets to monitor quality metrics and perform basic statistical calculations.
- Support senior chemists on advanced projects and accurately record data in a laboratory notebook.
- Contribute to writing of SOP’s and other Quality Documents.
- Communicate daily operational details and issues affecting the Analytical Lab operations to colleagues and management.
- Contribute to the daily operational tasks and organization of the Analytical Lab.
- Complete all assigned training within the agreed upon timeline.
- Perform all work in a safe and environmentally conscious manner by adhering to the GC Analytical Chemical Hazard Plan and Safety Manual.
- Work required shifts including overtime if required and weekends/holidays as scheduled.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience Requirements
- EDUCATION: Minimum: Bachelor's Degree in Science, Chemistry Preferred
OR
- EXPERIENCE: College analytical laboratory experience.
AND
- SKILLS/ KNOWLEDGE: Have operated and maintained routine laboratory equipment. Has followed and contributed to written lab procedures and methods. Has the ability to proficiently work with some of the following: GC, GCMS, HPLC, ICP, IC, or quantitative chemistry techniques. He/she is capable of effective oral and written communication. Has the ability to learn and follow verbal instructions and written procedures with minimal oversight. Has a working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.

Pay: $41,600.00 - $45,760.00 per year
