POSITION: School Counselor/Wellness Teacher
REPORTS TO: Principal of the Fr. Sauer Academy

SALARY RANGE: $84,614 - $118,736
PROGRAM SUMMARY:
MISSION STATEMENT:
The Fr. Sauer Academy seeks to prepare young people in 6, 7, and 8 grades from under-resourced communities to be successful at St. Ignatius College Preparatory, in higher education, and beyond. In partnership with families, the Academy will provide access to a Catholic, Jesuit education so that students may develop their gifts and talents in a loving community for the greater glory of God.
PRIMARY ROLE:
In keeping with the Jesuit tradition of supporting the needs of the whole person, St. Ignatius aims to foster adolescent well-being by encouraging healthy lifestyle strategies for all students. With this goal in mind, the Fr. Sauer Academy Counselor will provide counseling services to Fr. Sauer Academy students and teach 3 Advisory classes a week. As such, the Counselor will collaborate with members of the Fr. Sauer Academy and St. Ignatius community, including faculty, staff, students, and parents, to promote a healthy school environment.
This position includes Academic Support for students and community outreach for all families.
SUMMARY:
The Counselor will work directly with students in one-on-one, group and classroom settings. The counselor will assist students and their families to promote healthy life choices, provide individual counseling, and work with classroom faculty while teaching lessons to foster emotional and social well-being.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
The counselor will also work as an Academic support person and will include community outreach activities to engage families.
- Provide services on site for the Fr. Sauer Academy students in the following primary areas of responsibility
- Counseling: conduct structured, goal-oriented individual counseling sessions in response to the emotional and educational needs of assigned students
- Consultation/Collaboration: confer with teachers and administrators regarding students with difficulties and/or special needs
- Record-keeping: supervise the maintenance of the counseling record for assigned students in accordance with state and federal laws and ethical guidelines
- Assist the Principal in facilitating the Fr. Sauer Academy Parent Community Meeting series
- Professional Duties and Obligations: Perform responsibilities in an organized, accurate, timely, and dependable manner.
- Guide students through our Academic Recovery Program
- Teach 3 Wellness sections each week in support of our commitment to Social Emotional Learning and student development
- Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS AND KEY COMPETENCIES:
- Master's degree in Counseling or a related field
- A licensed mental health professional (MFT, LCSW, LPCC)
- Two years’ experience in a middle or elementary school setting performing the duties and demonstrating a high/substantial level of the knowledge, skills and abilities listed above
- Ability to speak Spanish (preferred)
