The purpose of a Security Officer is to provide a proactive visible deterrent to the commission of crimes on Hospital property. Officers are required to respond to crimes and disturbances on Hospital property and to take appropriate action. These responses may require Officers to apprehend violent offenders, assist staff with restraining patients and document these occurrences. Security Officers are responsible for the protection and safety of the Hospital, its patients, employees, visitors of all age groups and their property. Education/Experience: All Officers are required to possess excellent verbal skills and should be able to relate to people from all walks of life. They must also possess the ability to document occurrences in writing accurately. A minimum of a high school degree or its equivalent is required. Previous experience in a security function, investigative techniques or closed circuit television monitoring is preferred. Must possess a valid driver''s license issued by the state of their legal residence.

Areas of Responsibility:
- Respond to crimes and disturbances on Hartsfield Village property and to take appropriate action. These responses may require Officers to apprehend violent offenders, assist staff with restraining residents/patients and document these occurrences
- Responsible for being knowledgeable on and enforcing all Hartsfield Village policies, rules, and procedures on visitation, weapons on property, parking, package inspections, unauthorized persons, smoking, etc.
- Make presence highly visible, conducting walking patrols of the interior and exterior of Hartsfield Village and politely confronting persons wandering campus
- Control traffic into and out of Hartsfield Village, checking identifications and preventing unauthorized persons from gaining access
- Make periodic checks of parking garages during tour of duty and ensure access for emergency vehicles and other vehicles having business on campus
- Respond to violent situations, evacuate areas, evaluate and diffuse situations, using force as necessary
- Be familiar with Hartsfield Village codes and procedures concerning fires, disasters and bomb threats
- Assist in evacuating, lifting and moving residents/patients. Must be able to participate in fire suppression in case of fire
- Must be able to search all areas of Hartsfield Village for explosive devices, in case of a threat
- Review and adhere to all State, Federal, and local laws and standards relating to ethical and legal compliance plans and policies
- Ensure all exterior entry doors are secure after evening receptionist leave for the day and monitor safety of staff at shift changes
- Carry and monitor company issued two-way radio to communicate with Hartsfield Village staff and other security guards throughout shift, responding as necessary
- Perform 12 hour latch checks of Independent Living apartment homes and report any unknown resident absences to the Front Desk or nursing staff for follow-up
- Assist the Front Desk with common clerical duties such as answering phones, screening visitors, guest room check in/out, absence reports for call offs, transfer of intercommunity mail between buildings, and cover desks for lunch periods as needed
- Assist with deliveries to residents such as flowers, packages, groceries, and morning newspapers
- Respect the privacy of all residents, patients, guests and coworkers, maintaining sensitivity to resident/patient privacy – knocking on doors before entering and pulling privacy curtains
- Handles, accesses, and discloses resident/patient/Hartsfield Village information only as required in the performance of the job for treatment, payment or health operations in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, Hartsfield Village policies and procedures.
- Report safety matters, data, and/or specific cases to the appropriate person
- Demonstrate a commitment to safety and ensure the highest safety standards are adhered to at all times
- Follow through on all assignments and complete work with minimal direction
Qualifications and Experience:
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Valid driver’s license with clean driving history
- Previous experience in a security function, investigative techniques or closed circuit television monitoring is preferred
- Must be able to use Microsoft Word to document occurrences in writing accurately via electronic reporting
- Display exceptional customer service and communication skills to all residents, guests, and employees
- Secure premises while establishing a friendly presence on site
- Ability to respond quickly to critical situations and enforce company procedures, regulations, and standards
- Must have the ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds. Must be able to move over 100 pounds
- Must possess strong mental functions such as ability to compare, analyze, communicate, coordinate, copy, instruct, and compute

Seeking individuals with strong multi-tasking skills that can handle interruptions calmly and efficiently while maintaining composure and a positive attitude. Candidate must be organized and willing to take on tasks asked of them, providing support to others as needed. Knowledge of emergency preparedness procedures is vital.
