Overview
Position Summary
As a Project Engineer, you will work in a team environment where you will participate and learn McKenney’s preconstruction processes, design and virtual construction, fabrication workflows, field installation mechanical systems, and start-up and commissioning of those systems. We expect the Project Engineer to develop good relationships through regular interactions.
Responsibilities
Assist
Assist the project team in managing internal and external engineering teams including multi-trade engineering coordination and shop drawing review. Assist the project team in communications with general contractors, architects, engineers, and owners. Assist in managing start-up, commissioning, and owner training. Assist the project team in supporting field crews.
Management
Estimating, budgeting, and written proposals.
Understand contracts and contractual scope.
Planning and scheduling including short-term interval scheduling of various crafts.
Manage material, equipment, tools, information, and subcontractors on each job
Material, equipment, and subcontractor procurement.
Cost control (internal accounting system, change orders, etc) Warranty administration.
Market and promote the entire company.
Quality Assurance
Ensuring quality and performance.
Safety
Safety awareness, training, promotion. Understand, practice, and promote all company values and operational procedures.
Mentorship
Mentorship and development of Co-ops.
Requirements
Education
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, engineering technology or building construction.
Will accept equivalent business management degree with a focus in construction or engineering and 1-2 years of project management experience overseeing technicians working with mechanical systems.
If no 4 year degree, a High School diploma with a minimum 5+ years internal experience working with plumbing, piping, or HVAC systems in office or the field.
Experience
Demonstrated interest or experience in the construction industry.
Two years of experience managing mechanical work.
Strong Business Acumen (entrepreneurship counts)
Knowledge of Account Management (managing multiple customers)
Leadership exposure (conferences, training, etc.)
Skills
Must have PC experience in Windows environments, working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets, e-mail, Web-enabled applications, and database software. Strong leadership skills, self-motivated, team-oriented and able to respond quickly to changing customer demands. Solid reasoning, math, science, and technical skills. Must be a self-starter with ability to work well independently and as part of a team. Team-oriented and able to respond quickly to changing customer demands.
Abilities
Ability to use time productively, maximize efficiency, and meet challenging work goals.
Maintain a strong attention to detail and ability to successfully prioritize company drafting needs to maximize company profitability.
Ability to effectively communicate across a diverse group of people (PMs, drafting, field staff, fabrication shops, etc.).

Work Environment
Work involves moderate exposure to elements like hot/cold temperatures, dirt, dust, and/or loud noises.
The work environment involves exposure to construction-related hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
Physical Demands
Light physical effort. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds and some standing or walking.
