Summary of Position:
These duties will include, but may not be limited to, keeping accurate medical records, clerical work, client education, promotion of hospital services, and support of the organization. This position requires some knowledge of hospital procedures, policies, and services, patient treatment protocols, hospital computer systems, and the standard procedures, records, and terminology used in a veterinary hospital. The CSR provides support to the hospital by being responsible for client care and correspondence while maintaining schedule organization and structure and being a liaison between the client, the emergency veterinarian, and the referring veterinarian.
Responsibilities:
▪ Display confidence and reassurance when dealing with pets experiencing severe stress, illness, and pain
▪ Perform proper and complete medical record and client communication documentation
▪ Operate and properly maintain clerical equipment systems (computer, phone, copier, postage, etc.)
▪ Ability to communicate with clients clearly and in an understanding and empathetic manner
▪ Understand the importance of client confidentiality
▪ Provide high client satisfaction through excellent customer service
▪ Communicate with clients about the status of patients as directed by the veterinarian
▪ Strong ability to multitask with efficiency and accuracy
▪ Be comfortable with various techniques of patient restraint
▪ Understand and limit the potential exposure to bites, scratches, and injuries to self and others
▪ Understand that employees in this role are exposed to various cleaning solutions, chemicals, odors, noises, and animal wastes
▪ Understand zoonotic disease risk in the work environment and use appropriate safety equipment and policies to protect self and others
▪ Fill prescriptions and understand security measures of controlled drugs
▪ Understand and implement proper disinfection guidelines
▪ Participate in all mandatory staff meetings
▪ Communicate and approach job duties in a mature manner
▪ Foster teamwork approach and work well with all members of the hospital team
General Duties:
▪ Schedule appointments based on pre-determined veterinarian availability
▪ Answer phone calls and assist clients with their various needs
▪ Prepare appropriate paperwork and medical records for patients
▪ Attain referring veterinarian records when able
▪ Ensure accuracy and completion of client and referring veterinarian information in Cornerstone
▪ Greets clients and assists them thoroughly when checking in and during their entire visit (address them by name, offer water/coffee, etc.)
▪ Maintain cleanliness, appearance, and organization of lobby, exam rooms, client restroom, and general reception area
▪ Assist in other areas in the hospital if needed
