Qualifications/Requirements:
Education and Licensure:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Physical Therapy from an accredited program.
- Valid and current state licensure as a Physical Therapist.
- Certification by the National Physical Therapy Examination (NPTE).
Clinical Experience:
- Prior experience working as a Physical Therapist, preferably in a skilled nursing facility or similar setting.
- Experience in geriatric care, addressing functional limitations, mobility challenges, and rehabilitation needs.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Proficiency in conducting comprehensive assessments to evaluate patients' functional abilities, strength, balance, gait, and range of motion.
- Expertise in developing and implementing individualized treatment plans to address patients' goals and promote functional independence.
- Familiarity with therapeutic exercises, manual therapy techniques, and modalities to improve strength, mobility, and pain management.
- Understanding of fall prevention strategies and interventions to enhance balance and reduce the risk of injuries.
- Knowledge of adaptive equipment, assistive devices, and orthotics to facilitate safe and independent mobility.
- Ability to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including physicians, nurses, occupational therapists, and speech-language pathologists, to coordinate and integrate care.
Communication and Interpersonal Skills:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with patients, their families, and interdisciplinary team members.
- Empathy and patience to work with individuals who may have physical challenges or limitations.
- A collaborative approach to working with other healthcare professionals and effectively communicating treatment plans and progress.
Compliance and Documentation:
- Adherence to legal, ethical, and regulatory guidelines for physical therapy practice.
- Competence in maintaining accurate and timely documentation of evaluations, treatment plans, progress notes, and discharge summaries.
Continuing Education:
- Willingness to engage in ongoing professional development and continuing education activities to stay updated with advancements in the field.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, sit, and move around for extended periods to evaluate and treat patients.
- Physical strength and dexterity to facilitate therapeutic activities, assist with transfers, and use equipment.
- Capacity to lift and position patients as needed during therapy sessions.
