Job Summary:
The Rites of Passage (ROP) program, a component of the Get Smart B4 U Get Sexy (GSB4UGS) initiative at Black Women for Wellness, is seeking a dedicated and dynamic Program Coordinator. This 15-week program is designed to empower Black high school girls in South Los Angeles through education, reflection, and self-empowerment. The Program Coordinator will play a vital role in facilitating a transformative journey for program participants, guiding them through discussions, workshops, and activities that foster personal growth and development. Working closely with Black women professionals and wellness experts, the Coordinator will help facilitate engaging sessions on topics such as sexual health and wellness, hygiene, visioning and designing one's life, managing peer pressure, and financial literacy. The ideal candidate will possess a passion for empowering young women, strong facilitation skills, and a commitment to creating a safe and supportive environment for participants to explore and grow. Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and cultivate relationships within the Reproductive Justice community Los Angeles, California, and nationally
- Conduct presentations, workshops and training about research data and reproductive health issues
- Create flyers and other materials for outreach
- Create and distribute educational materials on RJ issues
- Supervise reproductive justice interns
- Attend and participate in coalition collaborative work
- Develop and train volunteers reproductive justice advocates
- Some writing of a blog post, op-ed on RJ work
- Stay updated on environmental toxic related issues
- Develop and maintain professional contact/relationships with Universities, community leaders as applicable
- Cultivate relationships with community organizations, business and elected officials around reproductive health
- Coordinate and handle administrative and logistical aspects of the program
- Moderate travel throughout California and light national travel
- Light community organizing with phone banking and canvassing
- Coordinate and record and document project data as requested by Program Director and/or Supervisor
- Maintain and update Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram or other social media sites*
- Tracking program expenses
Essential Functions
- Coordinate and facilitate all aspects of the Rites of Passage program, including scheduling sessions, securing guest speakers, and managing program logistics.
- Develop and implement engaging and interactive curriculum content that addresses the needs and interests of program participants.
- Foster a supportive and inclusive environment that encourages active participation, reflection, and self-discovery among program participants.
- Collaborate with Black women professionals and wellness experts to deliver informative and empowering sessions on various topics relevant to the program's objectives.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to program participants, offering support and encouragement as they navigate their journey to womanhood.
- Maintain regular communication with program participants and their families to ensure their needs are met and their voices are heard.
- Evaluate program effectiveness and participant outcomes through ongoing assessment and feedback mechanisms.
- Cultivate partnerships and collaborations with local organizations and stakeholders to enhance the impact and reach of the Rites of Passage program.
- Uphold the values and mission of Black Women for Wellness in all program activities and interactions.
Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in education, social work, youth development, African-American studies, or a related field
- Previous experience working with youth, particularly Black high school girls, in a mentorship or educational capacity.
- Strong facilitation and communication skills, with the ability to engage and inspire program participants.
- Knowledge of relevant topics such as sexual health and wellness, hygiene, financial literacy, and personal development.
- Cultural competency and sensitivity to the needs and experiences of Black youth in South Los Angeles.
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders and build positive relationships within the community.
- Flexibility, creativity, and adaptability to meet the evolving needs of the program and its participants.
- Commitment to promoting equity, inclusion, and empowerment in all aspects of program delivery.
- Familiarity with trauma-informed practices and strategies for supporting the mental and emotional well-being of youth.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $66,560.00 - $68,890.00 per year
