The Firefly Institute is an out patient, mental health counseling organization serving individuals across the lifespan facing adversity and mental health conditions. The Firefly Institute is focused on contributing to the field of mental health through advancing holistic theories of practice in solving complex challenges and issues facing children and adults due to adverse life experiences. We focus on deepening the understanding of theory and clinical practice applications to better serve our clients. The patient care coordinator engages in the management of clinical mental health services. Customer service is the highest priority for all patient care coordination staff. Firefly follows policy in accordance with the Oregon Health Authority to assist all clients in accessing and maintaining ethical care for mental health service delivery. The patient care coordinator supports referral coordination, scheduling per the clinician’s assigned level of care, the resolution of claims and billing. The care coordinator is responsible for overall policy adherence based on state and federal guidelines. The care coordinator will support patient scheduling and admission to ensure a high-quality experience for clinic patients. This goal is accomplished through a wide array of responsibilities, from referral data gathering, connecting with community allies for resource allocation, scheduling, medical billing and reception duties to money management and online billing.
Education:
High School Degree/GED or higher degree in business administration, accounting, healthcare related field and work related experience in customer service and/or healthcare systems.
License/Certification:
A valid Oregon State driver’s license is required
Passing a criminal background test.
Special Requirements:
In compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), employees in this classification are required to complete training related to HIPAA and demonstrate knowledge related to privacy standards within a healthcare setting.
Ability to:
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing
- Plan, prioritize and organize daily, weekly and monthly tasks
- Analyze, evaluate and make sound decisions related to scheduling, patient billing and accounts
- Prepare clear, accurate and effective reports, correspondence and other written materials
- Demonstrate interpersonal sensitivity and work with a diverse population
- Establish and maintain effective work relationships
