Overview of position-The Custodian / Van Driver is responsible for all aspects of cleaning, and light maintenance of the building and grounds of the Senior Center, as well as safely operating the Council on Aging van. Transporting Senior residents and Veterans to and from medical appointments. This is a part-time position, up to 19 hours per week. This position is under the general supervision of the Senior Center Director, reports to the Town Administrator.
Essential functions of position-
-General cleaning of the building includes sweeping, vacuuming and washing floors, cleaning bathrooms, wiping down tables, washing windows, dusting furniture and taking out the trash and recyclables.
-Removal of snow from doorways, ramp and sidewalks, sanding/salting the same. Some light grounds work.
-Responsible for setting up/taking down tables and chairs for functions and helping to put up and take down decorations as directed by the Director.
-Bringing items such as, but not limited to, wheelchairs, walkers, and decorations, up and down to the basement storage.
-Pick up mail from the post office daily.
-any other cleaning tasks assigned by the Director.
-Be familiar with the van including operation of the doors, wheelchair lift, seat belts, and wheelchair restraints.
-Before the start of each trip, preform a visual inspection of the vehicle including tires.
-Pick up passengers as instructed by the Director and safely transport them to the location specified.
-Assure that all passengers are restrained by means of a seat belt, or wheelchair belt and that brakes are secure on any wheelchair.
-Following the medical appointment, transport the passenger safely back home. Any stop enroot must be authorized by the Director.
-After completion of the trip, complete reports and submit them to Director. Perform a visual inspection of the vehicle inside and out. Report any problems or maintenance concerns to the Director
-Other duties as assigned by the Director to ensure the efficient operation of the Senior Center.
· Constant light to moderate physical effort is required.
· Ability to lift a minimum of 25lbs to 75lbs.
· Frequent bending, kneeling, squatting and climbing ladders.
· Good organizational skills and is conscientious of everyone’s safety.
· Successful completion and maintaining required training to drive the C.O.A. Van.
· CPR / First Aid Certification required.
· Possesses a valid Massachusetts driver's license with an acceptable driving history.
· Ability to interact with older adults and good communication skills.
· Must act professionally, provide excellent customer service, and maintain confidentiality.
· High School Diploma or G.E.D. (associate or bachelor’s degree preferred)

The hourly range offered is $16.13 to $21.67 per hour based on years of experience, and educational background.
