Job Title: Residence Counselor

Sub-Department/Program: Single Site Locations throughout the Bronx, Manhattan and Brooklyn
Reports to: Residence Manager/Program Director

Scope of Position:
Under the supervision of the Residence Manager/Program Director, Residence Counselors assist clients living in single site supportive housing programs for individuals diagnosed with a serious mental illness.
Essential Position Functions:
Assist clients with activities of daily living including cooking, cleaning, apartment maintenance, shopping, traveling, taking medication, symptom management, personal hygiene, money management, self-advocacy, and utilizing community resources; escort clients to outside appointments throughout the community utilizing public transportation to obtain benefits, attend medical appointments, shopping, etc.; motivate clients to develop skills needed to maintain housing.
Timely completion of required documentation for every client contact; co-facilitate groups in areas including but not limited to wellness, housing, stability, employment and education, relationships, and healthy decision making; assist in preparing program for audits; provide crisis intervention, as necessary; ability to work with residents, families, and staff in a caring and respectful manner, with consideration for cultural differences.
Conduct apartment inspections on multiple floors, utilizing stairs; provide an environment where clients have the ability to and are comfortable accessing services at any time of day or night. All shifts in residential community residences are “awake” shifts; attend staff meetings, supervision and trainings as required. Any other duties as may be assigned.
