Chief Financial Officer
Reports to: CEO/Co-Founder
The CFO is a member of MedZed’s Senior Leadership Team and plays a pivotal role in developing, leading, and driving all financial and IT strategies of the organization. This position is also a critical leader in driving margin expansion and growth across the organization, as well as providing leadership for the company’s IT functions.
The person must simultaneously be a strategic thinker and hands on manager and is an engaged and established business leader with strong competencies in managed care finance, managed care business operations, and value-based care. She/he must demonstrate deep and consistent success in health insurance, managed care, value-based care, and corporate transaction work. This executive must be a team player who will assist the CEO, Board of Managers, and all members of the Senior Leadership Team in the continued positioning of MedZed as a leader in the marketplace. The person has a passion for numbers and will use her/his insights and observations to positively impact the organization.
She/he must have a deep background in accounting, financial forecasting/budgeting, cash management, medical economics, provider contract pricing, and financial discipline. The CFO’s continuous focus on financial results will inform day-to-day activities as well as strategic actions. Further, the individual will demonstrate an ability to move data analysis to information that results in specific action that improves company effectiveness. A team player, the CFO is responsive to the needs of colleagues and places a high value on the company values, collaboration, and teaching.
The CFO will manage all staff responsible for the following areas: Cash management, Billing, Reimbursement, Coding, Accounting, Payroll, A/R – A/P, Purchasing, Medical Economics, Actuarial, medical coding, and all IT functions. The ideal candidate has deep experience with managed care claim risk and will help the company evolve to a successful risk bearing entity.
Essential Job Functions:

Supervises monthly/quarterly/annual closings and consolidations.

Prepares financial statements and monthly financial package including analysis of variances from budget and prior year.

Oversees the general accounting function, which includes inter-company accounting, cash management/reconciliation, financial reporting, balance sheet management, billing, accounts payable and payroll.

Accountable for ensuring that policies and procedures (internal controls) are in place to provide reasonable assurance that the company assets are protected.

Customer contract review and pricing negotiations

Leads and manages effort for potential transactions and capital raise processes.

Owns and leads the med-econ/actuarial functions in support of customer pricing, customer contract performance, contract reconciliations, claim liability valuation, and any other required analytics for all value-based arrangements.
- Provides technical accounting/GAAP guidance and support to all company entities. At times, this may include involvement in due diligence and other activities surrounding acquisitions/dispositions.

Ensures all company financial records are maintained in compliance with company policies and GAAP.
- Supervises the completion of Federal and State tax reporting requirements (including income, property, sales and use, payroll, and other local taxes), insurance reports and other reports required by government regulation.

Oversees the company’s evolution to becoming a risk bearing entity.

All financial, medical economics, and actuarial analysis are required to enable good decision making and understand detailed performance of the company.

Own the annual budget process, including forecasts on at least a quarterly basis throughout the budget year.
- Lead all IT functions and ensure all aspects of the company’s data, network, and technology needs are anticipated and met in a timely manner, including all security aspects of the company’s data/network infrastructure.

Other strategic initiatives as assigned and in support of the financial and operational success of the company.
Qualifications

Undergraduate Degree in Finance or Accounting (CPA/MBA preferred)

Proven track record of at least 10+ years of senior financial leadership experience in the managed care/value-based care industries, including multi-state oversight.
- Deep understanding of managed care finance, value-based care models, and provider risk arrangements.
- Strong analytical skills and strategic mindset, with the ability to translate financial data into actionable insights.

Must be familiar with medical billing processes including HIPAA transaction sets, EDI, clearinghouse processes, claim denials and rejections.

Previous experience leading all or a major portion of a healthcare organization’s IT functions, specifically in managed care or value-based care.
