Traveling Superintendent Description
The Traveling Superintendents provide the knowledge, skills and experience required to manage the day-to-day field operations of commercial construction projects. The primary focus of Flynn’s Traveling Superintendent is to provide the managerial and leadership skills necessary to accomplish the work by means of subcontractors and to manage the day-to-day issues of a small self-performed workforce.
Traveling Superintendents are responsible for the production aspects of the work and are accountable for: producing high quality work that is constructed consistent with the standard's set forth in the project's contract documents; for performing the work in a timely and cost-effective manner and for maintaining a work environment that is safe and continuously kept clean and orderly.
Responsibilities
- Managing the day-to-day field activities to ensure deadlines
- Maintain a daily log of job site activities, timesheets, e-mails on iPad etc.
- Managing and coordinating the work to ensure that it is constructed in an orderly and deliberate manner that is consistent with the standard-of-care set forth in the contract documents that is viewed by industry as an effort that is consistent with best-practices standards while on schedule and looking ahead
- Establishing and maintaining all dimensional controls for the project to include the use of third-party survey and layout personnel when appropriate
- Verifying that all work is installed in a workmanlike manner (i.e.: plumb, level, straight, etc.)
- Obtaining all inspections and ensuring that the quality aspects of the physical work are fully documented, including red line drawings
- Meeting with onsite representatives on a regular basis to discuss the status of projects, to proactively identify and resolve problems and to assure that the project manager is kept knowledgeable about the status of the work
- Managing changes in project scope
- Managing the punch list to assure timely completion
- Providing timely and cordial interaction with the team, such as accounting, HR, ICS, etc.
Qualifications
- Travel required - This position requires extensive travel and reports to the assigned project site daily. Travel 90%-100%, depending on projects
- 3-5 years’ experience working as a Superintendent in the commercial construction industry
- Works as a self-performing superintendent
- Lift up to 50 lbs.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $70,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
