Job Summary: The Academic Coach for Centennial Academy is a is a self-starter who has experience teaching in a diverse school setting. The Academic Coach exhibits superior organizational and communication skills; is compassionate; can provide effective collaborative and shared leadership; and is flexible and team-oriented with a collaborative approach to working with colleagues, administrators, and parents. This individual provides professional development and guidance for teachers to improve their content knowledge and effective delivery of instructional strategies. Overall, the job of the coach is to build the capacity of the school and its teachers to meet the learning needs of all scholars. The academic coach’s goal is to ensure that school staff acquires the understanding and skills to:
- Enhance instructional practices at the classroom level
- Raise the level of scholar academic achievement
Essential Duties:
Duties of the Centennial Academy Academic Coach include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Exhibits ownership, initiative, and responsibility to ensure the holistic success of teachers
- Coordinates with the administrative team to ensure all programming is of the highest quality and that all scholars are successful
- Collaborates with Data Analyst to support teachers in becoming adept at making data-driven instructional decisions
- Creates developmentally appropriate strategic plans based on multiple sources of data (classroom observations, assessment data, teacher feedback, etc.) to support scholar growth and achievement
- Serves as a Coach by providing individualized coaching and support to teachers through observation, feedback, discussion, varied coaching actions and professional learning opportunities
- Monitors the implementation and fidelity of our signature curricular programs (Rollins Center for Language & Literacy, Eureka, Wit & Wisdom, Accelerated Reading, PBL, and STEAM)
- Creates a digital portfolio that houses grade-band specific online resources
- Maintains resources and ensures that teachers are able to use available curriculum tools to deliver high quality instruction
- Monitors grading practices and Infinite Campus usage
- Supervises the Team Leads in his/her ability to support the overall development of the grade level
- Ensures that effective vertical team communication and collaboration occur at high levels
- Manages the supervision of scholars and instruction during a teacher absence
- Contributes productively and positively to the school community and culture as a whole
- Attends and participates in school events and meetings outside of regular school hours
- Manages the supervision of substitute teachers
- Participation in all required coach professional development. The coach is charged with acquiring the knowledge, skills, technology skills, and instructional strategies to effectively impact the instructional practices of the teachers that are coached. He/She must remain knowledgeable about current and past research in the specific content area and other pedagogies relevant to the coaching model
- Identification of the school teaching and learning needs, barriers and weaknesses by analyzing scholar data, and organizing and implementing problem-solving actions with teachers (in teams and individually) to refine their knowledge and skills
- Primary support for teachers will include, but not be limited to, in-class coaching, observing, modeling of instructional strategies, guiding teachers in analysis of scholar work, developing lesson plans with teachers based on scholar needs, supporting data analysis, supporting the integration of technology, co-planning with teachers, and conducting classroom walk-throughs
- Monitor instructional effectiveness and scholar progress using tools and strategies gained through professional development
- Assistance in collaborative development of district and state diagnostic and benchmark assessments
- Establish and maintain positive relationships with teachers
- Communication with supervisor and site administration through a weekly schedule/log of activities
- Accepts other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree required, Master’s preferred
- T4-T7 Georgia Certification
- 3 years teaching experience
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience implementing and coaching Eureka Math
- Demonstrated deep knowledge of the relevant content areas and skillful application of research-based strategies to provide access to content standards for scholars at risk
- Demonstrated knowledge and use of a rich array of instructional approaches, resources, and technologies in the relevant content area(s)
- Demonstrated skill in analyzing and using data for instructional decision-making; especially differentiated instruction for scholars at risk
- Interpersonal, problem solving, and organizational skills required to effectively facilitate coaching and staff development
- Ability to design (individually or in collaboration with others) high quality professional development for teachers/school staff
- Knowledge of equity issues in current educational reform
- Commitment to the vision, mission, and values of Centennial Academy
