Position Summary
The Driver reports to the Shipping & Receiving Supervisor and works as part of a team to ensure that all deliveries are accurately and timely made, while also working efficiently and in compliance with company procedures.
Responsibilities
Loading
- Loads product on the truck for delivery when necessary.
- Checks the condition of the load for safe transportation and rearranges as necessary.
- Checks shipping papers to determine the nature of the load and any special conditions related thereto.
Deliveries
- Maintain delivery schedules and keep them within time frames.
- Operates vehicles in compliance with company rules, applicable laws, and regulations and in accordance with accepted principles of safe driving.
- Reports unusual traffic conditions and other hazards noted enroute.
- Reports promptly any unusual delays or difficulties regarding delivery sites.
Unloading
- Unloads product to designated areas at the site.
- Unloading products carefully and placing perishables in refrigerated areas.
Maintains records
- Maintains records required for compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Keeps record of time, mileage, pallets shipped and received, any mechanical problems, and general remarks.
- Reports all accidents involving driver or company equipment immediately and complete the appropriate paperwork within 24 hours.
Maintain Vehicle and Equipment
- Ensure that the truck is kept clean and tidy.
- Inspects vehicle and required parts and accessories to determine safe operating condition prior to departure from the terminal.
- Uses and cares properly for all equipment assigned to the driver for the performance of duties.
Customer Service
- Represent the Company in a positive and professional manner while at delivery sites and while driving on the public roadway
Equivalent Education, Experiences, Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
- At least one year of professional truck driving experience, preferably in food and/or perishables.
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record. Class A required.
- Knowledge of Federal and state Department of Transportation Regulations.
- Ability to communicate effectively with people from diverse cultures and backgrounds.
- Bilingual- English & Spanish (preferred)
- Basic computer skills.
Additional Requirements:
- Must be 21 years of age or older (for CDL drivers).
- Must be able to pass and consistently meet federal and state DOT requirements as assigned regarding completion and retention of proper paperwork, physical requirements, drug tests, safety rules, and regulations.
- Must maintain a good driving record as required by company and DOT regulations, as applicable.
