Lead Elementary TeacherPosition Summary:
The lead Montessori teacher is responsible for providing a safe, child-centered, research-aligned program that promotes intellectual, social, emotional, and physical development. At MSE, we use the head, heart, and hand to help our children reach their full potential. As the lead teacher, you will lead the planning and implementation of the Montessori core program and create powerful learning experiences for your cohort of students in partnership with your assistant teacher.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strong understanding of Montessori methods and ability to effectively integrate other best practices with the Montessori method
- Strong understanding of literacy and math development in children and ability to build children's individualized learning plans that identify their current level of development
- Strong understanding of how to use multiple forms of assessment in informing and driving instruction
- Able to build immediate and loving rapport with children of all ages; strong understanding of child and adolescent development
- Passion for teaching and working with students from urban communities, with specific knowledge and understanding of the needs of students from different experiences, languages and backgrounds
- Driven adult learner dedicated to his or her own professional growth with an inquiry orientation to his or her own practice
- Able to lead a team and effectively maximize adults and supports in a classroom setting
- Enthusiasm and commitment to participating in the cooperative effort to launch MSE, with a dedication to the vision, mission and powerful practices of the school
- Sense of humor, high ethical professional standards, equity perspective
- Able to work in a creative and demanding learning environment, including the ability to problem-solve and manage ambiguity and adversity
- Excellent organization, time management and follow-up skills; high sense of commitment; ability to work as part of a team
Duties
- Takes leadership in guiding support staff; ensures all adults are maximized in the classroom
- Establishes a classroom environment that fosters curiosity, self-control and kindness
- Demonstrates knowledge of and supports MSE's mission, vision and values
- Establishes a classroom environment that is organized and engaging, with systems and procedures that manage student behavior, movement, and learning
- Partners effectively with the lead teacher to ensure children are growing and achieving at high levels
- Establishes a strong classroom culture where children can reach their potential by setting high expectations for themselves and others
- Shows a classroom culture that allows the children to become self-motivated and self-directed, have an appreciation for themselves and their communities, and where children value and love learning
- Plan and execute small and whole group lesson plans and classroom activities consistent with Montessori philosophy and MSE instructional guidelines
- Assesses students in accordance with MSE Assessment Plan, examines student data, and refines lesson plans to differentiate instruction for each student
- Collaborates with MSE team to improve own and others instructional practices; shares learning and best practices
- Actively participates in all professional development activities
- Demonstrates knowledge of, and supports MSE's standards, policies, operating instructions, and confidentiality protocols, and maintains ethical standards
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Montessori Certification
- PEL Preferred
