Job Description:
Our clinic relies on the Doctor’s Assistant to give outstanding customer service to our clients. Successful DA’s are able to balance daily incoming patience with procedures done in the back with a technician. A DA is also responsible for making sure the Doctor knows the chart for each patient and that the Doctor is on time, seeing their rooms, and making the customer happy. Below are some of the categories of duties that an ideal candidate would learn to master:
Clinic Operations
- Labels all patient cages, and updating Treatment board with all vital information (including name, reason for visit, and treatment required)
- Dispenses medications correctly and administer vaccines
- Assists inventory control to assure adequate stocks of medical supplies
- Cleans clinic service areas and maintains medical devices
Client Relations
- Builds, Presents, and finalizes estimates for patient care with assistance from the Doctor
- Explains routine medical knowledge clearly and intelligently
- Manages incoming clinic patients, ensuring patients are seen in a room by the doctor or brought to the back for further evaluation
- Responsible on a “fill-in” basis for “front-desk” work, including making patient appointments and managing cancellations
- Maintains the practice philosophy for attracting new clients and retaining existing clients
- Facilitates resolution of client problems with the support of the Office Manager
Technician-Support Duties
- Transfers patient history to the SOAP in Vetspire
- Collects specimens for out-of-house lab assessment – including cytology, smears, swabs, scraping
- Performs routine in-house lab procedures including urinalysis (collection, microscope analysis, dipstick testing, pH testing), PCV check, running lab machines for hematology (i.e. CBC) and biochemistry, ear smear cytology, skin scrapes
- Carry out treatments (oral or topical medication, cleaning patients - bathing, nail trim, clip and clean) as prescribed by veterinarian(s)
- Takes radiographs – including proper labeling, attaching to records and sending them to the client
- Restrains patients in preparation for surgery or hospitalization – including: IV catheter placement, surgical prep (i.e. shaving and disinfect surgical area)
Qualifications
- Must love animals!
- Minimum 1-3 years in veterinary clinics
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to learn quickly, work independently
Build technical knowledge of products and medication sold, for example including dietary and dermatological products

Pay: $18.00 - $25.00 per hour
