JOB DUTIES: The Pharmacy Technician at Wahiawa Health Pharmacy will assist the pharmacist in reviewing, processing, and preparing medications in accordance with state and federal regulations. Duties include but are not limited to:
- Assist the Pharmacist(s) in the processing, preparation and dispensing of prescriptions and medication orders, medical supplies and Medication Therapy Management (MTM).
- Assists the Pharmacist in reporting Medication Therapy Management outcomes
- Assist with preparation, measuring, and labeling of the prescription which includes the mixing of oral suspensions, measuring liquid medications, counting the required capsules or tablets
- Assist the Pharmacist(s) in supporting the needs of the Primary Care Clinic, Behavioral Health, Pediatric, Podiatry and Women’s health. Duties include but are not limited to: inventory management of clinic medications and delivery of clinic orders to the various departments.
- Receive prescriptions from patients and verify correct spelling of name, birth date, address, zip code, telephone number and insurance information.
- Enter patient, demographic, allergies, drug insurance and prescription data into the pharmacy computer system.
- Assist patient/customer in providing required information to process prescriptions.
- Count or measure out medications and/or medical supplies for dispensing by a Pharmacist.
- Prepare mail-out prescriptions and prescriptions that are scheduled to be delivered to the patients home
- Under the immediate supervision of a registered Pharmacist, assist in stocking, record keeping, pricing, documentation of third party claims and reimbursements.
- File prescriptions and maintain prescription records and files on a timely basis and in an orderly manner to comply with record keeping laws and in preparation of audits
- Respond professionally to inquiries from patients, customers and medical staff regarding procedural aspects of the drug distribution process, pharmacy prices and third-party insurance issues. Direct inquiries to appropriate pharmacy personnel for response of action.
- Assist in pricing prescriptions, medical supplies and medication orders based upon pharmacy pricing schedules.
- Process and package or mail-out prescriptions and prepare clinic medication and medical supplies.
- Develop and maintain a working knowledge of pharmaceutical medical terminology, abbreviations and symbols commonly used in the prescribing, dispensing and medical record keeping.
- Able to perform simple arithmetic calculations required for the usual dosage determination and medication preparations.
- Has a thorough knowledge and understanding of the pharmacy technician’s duties and responsibilities, including standards of ethics and applicable laws, rules and regulations which govern the practice of pharmacy.
- Has a working knowledge of routes of administration and dosage forms
- Has a working knowledge of the procedures and operations relating to the manufacturing, packaging and labeling of drug products.
- Assist the Pharmacist(s) in the inventory process of maintaining medications, medical supplies and retail merchandise at ideal inventory levels.
- Complying with Pharmacy policies and procedures
- Interact with customers and co-workers professionally and appropriately
- Answering phone calls with patience and appropriate customer service
- Assist with receiving, stocking and maintaining pharmacy inventory
- Utilizing pharmacy software to process prescriptions, document notes, and perform any other pharmacy duties
- Perform duties assigned by the Director of Pharmacy/ or Staff Pharmacist
REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: Must be physically capable of standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time and physically capable of performing all services. Ability to lift to 20 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 pounds.

EDUCATION: High School Graduate, Formal pharmacy technician program (i.e., technical, hospital, or retail-based program)
EXPERIENCE: Minimum two years of pharmacy technician experience is preferred. Prefer hospital, health system, or 340 B pharmacy experience.
CERTIFICATION: Certified by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB)- Preferred. Basic Life Support (BLS) hands on course through American Heart Association.
