Texas Water Utilities is seeking a Staff Accountant to support our Accounting team. This role will perform assigned professional accounting functions requiring the application of generally accepted accounting principles and Company procedures while maintaining strong internal controls to ensure integrity of data. In addition, this role will perform, analyze and review a wide variety of costs and charges to ensure compliance with established Company accounting procedures and reliable accounting practices.

This position will be willing and able to perform the following duties and others as assigned:

Analyzing costs and charges for compliance with company procedures and accounting principles

Managing various flexible responsibilities and processing daily cash transaction banking files

Completing additional projects as needed based on management requirements

Identifying and reporting issues to the Accounting Manager or Supervisor

Accounting for service orders and CWIP with proper cost classification

Analyzing monthly operating results and explaining variances
-
Assisting in preparing monthly and annual regulatory reports

Preparing and uploading journal entries for month-end close

Preparing balance sheet reconciliations

General knowledge of GAAP in order to appropriately maintain financial records is preferred

Moderate to advanced knowledge of standard office spreadsheet, data and word processing programs

Strong analytical skills, ability to use thinking and reasoning to effectively identify and solve water quality problems

High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 suite including Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, SharePoint, and PowerPoint

Effective verbal and written communication skills
Education and Certifications

Bachelor's Degree with major in Accounting or Business Administration required

Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification is a plus
