Industrial Mechanic
Position Overview: Grand Rapids Iron & Metal is seeking a skilled and motivated Industrial Mechanic to join our dynamic team at our scrap metal and paper recycling facility, which operates across two sites.
The successful candidate will play a lead role in maintaining, repairing, and enhancing the mechanical systems and equipment essential to our recycling operations. Key Responsibilities:
● Mechanical Maintenance and Diagnostics: Perform scheduled maintenance, troubleshoot mechanical issues, and conduct diagnostics on a wide range of recycling machinery and equipment. Ensure optimal performance to minimize downtime and maximize production efficiency.
● Dry Van Trailer Repair and Maintenance: Carry out repairs, maintenance, and inspections of dry van trailers used for transporting recyclable materials. Ensure trailers meet safety standards and regulatory requirements.
● Semi-Tractor Maintenance: Maintain and repair semi-tractors used for material transportation.
Conduct inspections, address mechanical issues, and ensure roadworthiness and compliance.
● Welding and Fabrication: Utilize welding and fabrication skills to repair and modify equipment and structures. Fabricate custom parts and components as needed to enhance operational efficiency.
● Hydraulics and Electrical Controls: Diagnose and repair hydraulic systems and electrical controls on various machinery. Collaborate with other teams to address complex issues that involve both mechanical and electrical aspects.
● Electrical Maintenance: Perform maintenance and repairs on electrical components, ensuring proper functionality and safety. Collaborate with electrical technicians as needed for comprehensive problem-solving.
● Documentation and Compliance: Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and inspections. Ensure compliance with safety regulations, environmental standards, and operational protocols.
● Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process and equipment improvements.
Participate in initiatives aimed at enhancing operational efficiency, safety, and sustainability.
● Servant Leadership and Teamwork: Embrace a servant leadership approach, putting the needs of the team and the facility first. Collaborate effectively with colleagues, sharing knowledge and supporting the growth of others.
Qualifications and Skills:
● High school diploma or equivalent; technical or vocational training in industrial mechanics or a related field is preferred.
● Proven experience as an industrial mechanic in a similar setting, preferably in scrap metal and paper recycling.
● Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to diagnose and repair a variety of equipment.
● Proficiency in welding, fabrication, hydraulics, and electrical systems.
● Familiarity with dry van trailer and semi-tractor maintenance is a plus.
● Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics.
● Excellent documentation skills for maintenance records and compliance purposes.
