Job Description
Position: Track Laborer
Wage Range: $18.00-23.00 / Hourly
Job Type: Full-Time
Railroad Track Laborers perform physical labor using hand tools, power tools, and small equipment, to construct, alter, repair, maintain, upgrade, and take-up railroad tracks, associated structures, track beds, and general track components. Track Laborers work as members of a 2 to 30-person traveling crew, and receive work assignments directly from the crew leader, generally the Track Foreman. May work on high production, high stress job sites dependent on customer needs. Position requirements vary.
Essential Functions:
1. Carry, place, install track materials using hand tools such as tie tongs, rail tongs, rail forks, lining bars, shovels, and jacks.
2. Remove spikes with claw bars, spike lifters, and spike pullers.
3. Fasten rail to ties using spike mauls or spike drivers.
4. Lift, position, handle, remove and install railroad crossties.
5. Connect and disconnect rail using track, impact, power wrenches, or welding materials.
6. Raise tracks, turnouts, crossings, and rails with track or power jacks.
7. Work alongside heavy equipment by connecting, disconnecting and controlling material that is being moved and by directing such movement.
8. Be trained and understand all Railroad safety rules and procedures.
9. Participate in safety meetings.
10. Wear all appropriate personal protective equipment.
Required Abilities:
1. Interact effectively as a crew member.

4. Quickly learn and perform job duties.
5. Recognize, avoid and report potential hazards.
6. Able to work multiple shifts and overtime as required.
7. Maintain a good attendance record.
8. Must be willing and capable to work any shift, including weekends.
Other Requirements:
1. Must be 18 years of age or older.
2. Applicant must be currently authorized to work permanently in the United States
3. Applicant must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test and background check Job
4. Subject to DOT Random Drug Testing
5. Capable of lifting and carrying a minimum of 75 pounds.
6. Willing and able to travel to various job sites, including those that require overnight stays and those that require short notice mobilization. Anticipate 90%+ of work to require extended time on the road.
7. Capable of working in inclement weather and/or conditions.
8. Capable of covering distances afoot of one quarter (1/4) to two (2) miles per day, on railroad right of way, negotiating steep grades and rough terrain, without assistance.
9. Must be able to read and comprehend written safety rules, procedure and safety manuals, government regulations, operating and maintenance instructions, memos and other work-related information
10. Able to think and act quickly in responding to emergency and non-emergency situations
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $18.00 - $23.00 per hour
Expected hours: No less than 40 per week

Experience:
- Construction/Laborer: 1 year (Preferred)
License/Certification:
- Driver's License (Preferred)
