Immediate Supervisor: Director of Nursing
Position Description
This position is responsible for classroom and clinical instructions and various activities related to the education of nursing students. The full-time position requires a ten- or twelve-month contract.
Position Requirements

Must have a clear and current license to practice as a RN in the state of California.

Have a minimum of a Master's Degree in Nursing

Must be approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing prior to assuming teaching responsibilities in pre-licensure courses.

Must have a minimum of 1 years' experience as a staff nurse.

Previous teaching in an A.D.N. or BSN program is preferred.

Must have current knowledge and experience (within 5 years) to teach within an area of specialized nursing.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Classroom Responsibilities:

Develops and revises course syllabi and handouts.

Utilizes audio visuals that enhance student learning.
-
Is responsible for advising students regarding course work and progress.
-
Maintain regularly scheduled office hours for students.
-
Provides written or verbal feedback on students learning assignments.
-
Maintains records related to student grades, advisement and student progress.
-
Takes responsibility for orienting self to CUI, policies and procedures.
-
Actively participates in the Department of Nursing Committees and other campus committees as assigned.

Participates in yearly evaluations in order to maintain teaching effectiveness and program outcome evaluation.

Assists in orientation and mentoring of new faculty members.

Participates in professional and community activities and organizations.

Assist in the design, implementation, and evaluation of the curriculum.

Complies with all rules and regulations for CUI faculty (see University Policies and University Faculty Handbook).
Clinical Responsibilities:

Communication with Clinical Coordinator and Course Coordinator for facility orientation.

Orients self and students to each clinical site
-
Maintains communications with clinical agencies and the agency health care team.
-
Understands CUI's student policies and procedures for clinical performance and clinical site requirements.

Updates self on clinical practice and knowledge.

Plans students learning assignment in the clinical setting.

Communicates with students throughout the clinical learning experience and focuses on each student during pre and post conference.

Evaluates each student's clinical performance and apprises student of progress.

Completes midterm and final student evaluations.

Reviews theory content that student is currently studying.

Evaluates student's written or verbal plan of care.

Evaluates and grades all assigned clinical projects, papers, or presentations.

Communicates clearly with the health care team members the responsibilities of the nursing students for the clinical day.

Communicates with the clinical coordinator and course coordinator any student concerns or questions.
-
Provides frequent feedback to students on their clinical performance with weekly clinical notes.
-
Evaluate clinical facility at the end of the semester.
