The purpose of the paraeducator is to provide assistance to classroom teachers as they seek to provide children with a safe, welcoming, and high-quality learning environment. The paraeducator is responsible for assisting the classroom teacher in the implementation of the curriculum and the completion of daily tasks. Ultimately, paraeducators are responsible for supporting Divine Savior Academy in its mission of providing excellence in education, rooted in
the timely truths of God’s Word.
Paraeducators have a cooperative relationship with the classroom teachers at the early childhood and elementary level. They work as a team to provide children with the best educational experience possible. Classroom teachers are responsible for communicating tasks and directions effectively to paraeducators.
Paraeducators work collaboratively with their classroom teachers and the Divine Savior staff as a whole, to support their students and carry out their classroom tasks.
Requirements
- High School Diploma
- Early Childhood or Elementary Education coursework, training, or experience (formal college education preferable)

Duties
As a practical definition, the the Paraeducator:
- Assists classroom teachers in the goal of providing students with an excellent Christian education
- Supports the implementation of the planned curriculum and lessons
- Follows classroom teacher’s directions and instructions in the completion of daily tasks
- Ensures that the classroom expectations are being followed consistently
- Follows all classroom and school procedures to ensure the safety of all students
Supports classroom students
- Observes student work and provides support as needed
- Redirects children’s behavior in order to increase attention and focus
- Supports children who are not comprehending lessons and guides them individually or in small groups
Builds strong relationships with students, parents, families, and colleagues
- Engages in appropriate and positive teacher-child interactions in the classroom
- Communicates regularly and effectively
- Contributes to team-building exercises with staff
