The mission of the MPN Research Foundation is to stimulate original research in pursuit of new treatments – and eventually a cure – for the blood cancers polycythemia vera, essential thrombocythemia, and myelofibrosis, known collectively as myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPN).
MPN Research Foundation focuses on:
- Research - identify, fund, and support novel research to accelerate the discovery and development of effective MPN treatments.
- Convene - facilitate global engagement across patient and caregiving, research and clinical, and industry stakeholders.
- Advocate - advance patient and researcher perspectives on the development of new treatments.
Job Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Major Donor Engagement Lead specializing in philanthropy and major donor engagement to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in philanthropy, cultivating relationships with major donors, and securing significant contributions to support our mission autonomously. This role requires a blend of strategic thinking, relationship building, and hands-on development enablement to drive fundraising efforts forward. MPN Is a small, innovative foundation seeking people with a passion for making a difference in the research industry to join our team.
Job Duties
- Own the Forecast and Pipeline of Major Donors:
o Develop and maintain a comprehensive forecast and pipeline of major donors.
o Identify, engage, and cultivate relationships with donors and supporters through personalized communication, stewardship activities, and donor recognition efforts.
o Advocate for increased funding and support for cancer research initiatives and work to move donors with capacity and affinity towards higher levels of impact, closely collaborating with the CEO and members of the Board of Directors to close high-impact, major contributions.
- Drive Successful Progression of Key Donors:
o Develop individualized cultivation and stewardship plans for key donors.
o Coordinate with fundraising team members to ensure timely and meaningful engagement.
- Secure Planned Giving Commitments:
o Cultivate relationships with donors interested in planned giving.
o Work closely with legal and financial advisors to facilitate planned giving commitments.
- Analytics to Track Donor Profiles and Propensity to Donate:
o Lead the creation of systems and processes using data-driven and analytic strategies to increase fundraising efficiency.
o Utilize donor management software and analytics tools to track donor profiles and giving history.
o Optimize outreach efforts by leveraging propensity to donate data.
o Analyze data to identify trends and opportunities for donor engagement.
- Nurture Board of Directors Giving and Their Respective Networks:
o Cultivate relationships with Board members to secure their support and involvement in fundraising efforts.
o Leverage Board members' networks to identify new major donor prospects.
- Drive Multi-Year Proposals:
o Develop compelling multi-year proposals tailored to major donor interests and priorities.
o Work collaboratively with program staff to articulate impact and outcomes.
o Serve as a thought leader on philanthropy for staff and board leadership.
o Stay abreast of advancements in cancer research and technology to inform strategic development decisions.
- Convert Campaigns into Quantifiable Growth:
o Develop strategies to convert campaign donors into major donors.
o Track campaign performance and identify opportunities for growth.
The Major Donor Engagement Manager plays a critical role in driving revenue growth and ensuring the long-term sustainability of the organization. They are responsible for building and maintaining relationships with major donors, securing planned giving commitments, and leveraging data to inform fundraising strategies. This role requires a combination of strategic thinking, relationship-building skills, and a passion for making a difference in the fight against MPN cancers.
Qualifications:
- Proven track record in philanthropy and major donor engagement within the non-profit sector.
- Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent; advanced degree preferred.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and inspire stakeholders.
- Technical proficiency in relevant research methodologies and development tools.
- Strong analytical skills and ability to leverage data to inform fundraising strategies.
- Strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on driving innovation and impact.
- Experience in developing and implementing systems and processes to enhance fundraising efficiency.
- Chicago based preferred, but not required
- Ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize and execute tasks effectively in unstructured or ambiguous situations.
- Passion for the mission of the MPN Research Foundation and a commitment to making a difference in the lives of those affected by MPNs.
- Familiarity with marketing principles and strategies is a plus.
- Ability to straddle the team environment and individual tasks to achieve common goals
