Through the Forman College Counseling Fellowship program, recent college graduates will gain valuable job experience related to the post-secondary planning process for high school students. Additionally, this position will allow a fellow to gain insight into the boarding school environment and the world of language-based learning disabilities and ADHD.
This one-year position includes room and board for the school year, a salary of $25,000, and professional development opportunities related to college admissions, learning disabilities, and general job skills, as well as consideration for further employment (based on department openings).
This position is a member of a boarding school faculty. Candidates should be interested in contributing outside of the classroom and in becoming fully involved in the student life program. Faculty are expected to demonstrate respect for diversity of identities and experiences with an orientation toward equity and inclusion and display cultural competency in all aspects of school life.
College Counseling Responsibilities:
- Be a regular presence in the Post-Secondary Planning (PSP) courses to offer support to both students and teachers.
- Co-teach two PSP courses with the possibility of independently teaching one PSP course during the winter and spring terms.
- Schedule one-on-one sessions with students who need additional support.
- Offer help sessions during Y-block and Extra Help Block.
- Meet with college representatives who visit campus to gain greater insight into their college/university.
- Maintain open communication with the Director and Associate Director through scheduled meetings and daily follow-ups. Meet weekly one-on-one with either the Director or Associate Director.
- Develop a positive rapport with students; become familiar with their learning profiles to best support them.
Additional Duties:
- Participate in three seasons of after-school activities
- Serve as a houseparent; member of a weekday and weekend duty team
- Attend all required school functions and meet all general faculty expectations
- Additional duties as assigned
