Summary: This position provides direct support to the production Supervisor by working closely with employees to optimize quality, efficiency, and operational excellence, in accordance with company policies and procedures. It ensures that safety equipment is assigned and properly used, while focusing on the development of employees. Champions food safety, employee engagement, and teamwork to ensure a seamless flow of product.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Supports the Supervisor in the day-to-day production operations of the business by achieving set production and/or operational goals. Coaches coworkers in an appropriate manner regarding all aspects of production activities as necessary. Leads an environment where employees maximize their performance.
- Monitors assigned work areas for loss prevention, risk management, USDA compliance, and labor/employee relations promptly addressing or escalating issues or concerns. Promotes department and company goodwill through proactive employee communication and employee involvement. As an active participant, champions training & development and retention of qualified talent.
- Coaches employees in meeting Performance Measurement Standards (e.g. productivity, attendance, tardiness, safety, and quality), and communicates regarding pertinent information for daily, event or seasonal business issues. Monitors individual employee’s productivity by training staff and reducing turnover.
- Works with Supervisors and other Leads to maintain knowledge of business metrics and efficiencies. Maintains departmental supplies, tools, and equipment. Implements processes and methods as directed Acts as a tactical resource to address and resolve inquiries and problems in their area/s.
- Performs routine walking and visual inspections of their area/s to observe unsafe acts or conditions; takes immediate corrective action where necessary to develop and meet plant safety goals. Is actively involved in safety efforts. Coaches employees to ensure adherence to safe operating procedures.
- Maintains adequate knowledge of products and equipment to coach employees in properly performing their job and meet established HACCP and USDA requirements, taking corrective or training actions as necessary.
Education/Experience:
- High School or GED required; some college preferred or the equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- Three years progressive experience in commercial food operations, preferably in a protein-related industry.
- Functional knowledge of MS Office Suite and knowledge of industry product reporting systems.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as letters, memoranda, invoices, policies, and other documentation.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions, and to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. Sufficient mathematical skills to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals accurately. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage correctly. Ability to lead problem solving and troubleshooting efforts associated with operational-level process issues.
