About Empire Photo
Founded in 1978, Empire Photography has been the recognized leader in graduation, sports, school pictures, and event photography throughout Wisconsin and Northern Illinois.
Day to Day
No day is the same. Depending on the location of the photo event, you’ll either meet at our office on Monroe street and then head out to a photo event, or meet the crew at the photo location at a set time. Transportation to the job will be provided in most situations for those that are local to Dane county and can meet at our office prior to the photo event. Reliable mode of transportation is required, whether you are meeting at our office or at the location of the photo event.
You will be the face of Empire Photo for the schools we work with. We expect Empire team members to make picture day enjoyable for the students and their families, and stress-free for school administrators.
There is a crew leader on all photo assignments and so as a new hire, you will not be asked to execute an event on your own. School portraits are mostly taken indoors. You’ll be trained to handle many different lighting situations. Empire will provide all of the camera, lighting, and backdrop equipment.
Work Schedule
Photo assignments can be Monday through Friday and range from mornings, daytime school hours, and into the evenings. We work hard to spread the shifts out and give everyone the days off they need. We work to accommodate class schedules, vacation requests, and freelance work. The months of August through October comprise our busy fall season.
Background Check
Because this position entails working with minors, you will be subject to a background check, and passing the background check will be necessary in order to work for us. Please ask us if you have any questions about this.
Opportunities for Advancement
If you have qualifying photography experience, some management experience, and customer service skills, you may qualify for immediate advancement to a Lead Photographer. Pay starts at $18 and is relative to market related experience. If you are interested in learning more, please ask about this in your interview with us.
Hybrid Photographer-Office Position
We have opportunities for some photographers to become a hybrid photographer/office staff member in which two days per week you would be asked to come into our main office headquarters from 6 AM - 3 PM. The other days of the week you would act as a normal school photographer. During the two days in our office, if you were called into helping at a photo event you would be tasked with meeting the photo crew at the school and helping to photograph. If you were not called in to help with an event, you’d stay and help at the office with production related tasks. Pay starts at $17/hour.
The main benefit of opting into this is you’d be guaranteed 40 hours per week.
