Function:
The Distribution Manager works closely with Management, Associates, and distribution related suppliers on a day-to-day basis. This position will be the primary coordinator of distribution processes for supporting our customers’ product needs. This position investigates/begins special projects, working with various staff members, per the instruction of management.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Facilitate the effective and efficient distribution of all products from supplier to customer. This role includes but is not limited to:
1) Processes delivery requests, schedules deliveries, monitors, and reviews sales versus delivery status
2) Warehouse location management:
- Locates potential warehouse sites
- Interviews warehouse vendors
- Negotiates rates & terms
- Works with warehouse staff to develop suitable processes for meeting our customer’s needs
- Moves or closes a warehouse (as necessary)
3) Manages inventories at company warehouses, overseeing counts and reconciliation of discrepancies
4) Projects and orders products to meet company needs while aiming for reasonable stocking levels at all warehouse locations
5) Instigates warehouse stocking requests from non-major warehouses, sets reasonable limits, and addresses any needs, discrepancies, shortages, and issues as they arise.
6) Serves as initial contact for vendors, carriers, and associates regarding products (availability, handling, packaging, storage, issues/concerns, etc.)
7) Maintains a product issue log and investigates and works toward resolution of all inquiries and issues as they arise
8) Oversees product labeling & Safety Data Sheets, works with manufacturers when updates are needed
9) Coordinates, researches, and reviews fertilizer registrations and state specific requirements for licensing and registration
10) Determines which products will be registered in which states and assists with questions and issues as they arise
11) Serves as in-office contact for the company’s trademarks initiates trademark renewals, acquires evidential documentation, and monitors for notice of acceptance and renewal
12) Carrier management:
- Maintains communications
- Evaluates and recruits carriers as necessary
- Establishes procedures
- Obtains competitive quotes
13) Investigates and resolves freight invoice discrepancies, freight reimbursement inquiries, and manages bulk freight rates
14) Facilitates shipments of research materials per Technical Director and coordinates testing with laboratories
15) Prepares and analyzes year-end shipping summaries, monitors trends, and recommends changes as needed
16) Participates in ongoing distribution-related cross-training and development with other office staff
17) Assists in simple accounting processes, including but not limited to:
- Processes transfers
- Determines freight pricing and freight reimbursements
- Reviews distribution-related invoices
- Assists with tonnage tax questions
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Arts degree
- 3 Years of Logistics experience
- Experience with Microsoft Products
