The Unit Manager (UM) is a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) that is primarily responsible for overseeing day to day patient care, supervising, directing, and developing nurse staff, and reporting to the Director of Nursing (DON) to ensure the delivery of quality patient care. The UM is required to be a dependable and personable liaison between residents and their families. The UM is tasked with ensuring their assigned unit(s) complies with federal and state regulatory standards and follows facility policies and procedures. The UM is expected exhibit a high level of professionalism, clinical knowledge, critical thinking, and demonstrate a teamwork approach in high-stress situations.
The daily tasks of the Unit Manager generally includes:
- Maintaining and restoring health of residents
- Acting as a main point of contact between residents and their families
- Addressing and preventing concerns from family members
- Assists in developing, implementing and making adjustments to care plans as needed
- Supervises, counsels, and provides discipline when necessary, to nurse staff to ensure the highest quality care possible
- Ensures their unit(s) meets federal and state regulatory standards, as well as company policies and procedures
- Collaborates with the Director of Nursing, Nurse Practitioners, and Physicians to plan and maintain resident care
- Assists with admissions and discharges to include entry of physician orders, assessments, and audits for timely completion
- Oversees and audits changes made to care plans
- Delivers hands-on care and medicine distribution as needed
- Audits and completes charting, evaluations, medical forms, and other administrative tasks as assigned by the DON and ADON
- Identifies procedural problems and works with the DON to resolve issues
- Evaluates, prioritizes and ensures the care needs of each resident is met
The UM is expected to have an in-depth relationship with their residents and their family members, while also having a distinguished rapport with staff. This role is essential to every operational aspect of the facility. The UM ensures individual resident needs are met by evaluating the effectiveness of care plans and participates in facility QA/CQI processes. The UM must be knowledgeable of regulatory standards determined by CMS, CDC, OIG, as well as local and state health regulatory entities.

· HOUSE SUPERVISOR FRIDAY 6-10P - ROTATION AS ASSIGNED BY DON
· WEEKEND AFTER-HOURS CLINICAL CALL - ROTATION ASSIGNED BY DON
· COVID-19 STAFFING CRISIS RESPONSE TEAM
· FLOOR STAFFING COVERAGE PRN – AS ASSIGNED BY DON or DESIGNEE
STAFF DEVELOPMENT REQUIREMENT
· DELIVER DAY 2 CLINICAL STAFF ORIENTATION - ROTATION ASSIGNED BY DON
· DEVELOP AND DELIVER EDUCATION AS ASSIGNED BY DON, ADON, AND/OR QA NURSE'
