Position Summary
Wellesley College, a premier liberal arts and sciences college for women located twelve miles west of Boston, invites applications for the position of Assistant Director of Admission. This is an exciting opportunity to join a team responsible for recruiting students through various virtual, on- and off-campus programs and events, and for enrolling the next generation of women leaders. General admission responsibilities include travel for school and community-based organization (CBO) visits, parent-student gatherings, and college fairs; virtual and in-person group presentations with prospective students; reading and evaluation of applications for admission.
This position requires knowledge of and enthusiasm for the College’s mission and niche in higher education; commitment to building a socially and economically diverse applicant pool; and dedication to building partnerships with schools and CBOs committed to supporting students throughout the college search and application processes. Responsibilities will be determined based on office needs and the candidate’s skills. The individual in this role will also collaborate with others in the department as needed. Candidates are encouraged to express interest in specific projects in the cover letter.
Position Responsibilities
Manage a geographic reading territory and participate in team reading and committee review of application files
Manage a geographic recruitment territory and build relationships with high school counselors and community-based organizations through in-person and virtual travel and ongoing communications
Independently manage projects as assigned and serve as a strong collaborative member of the admission team
Communicate the benefits of a Wellesley College education virtually and through on- and off-campus information sessions
Performing other duties as assigned by the Dean of Admission and Financial Aid or Director of Admission
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required. 1-3 years of previous admission, higher education, secondary school, non-profit organization or related experience is preferred. This also includes employment held as a student. Familiarity with and support of the mission of a selective, liberal arts college is essential. Candidates should demonstrate strong organizational and communication skills. Regular evening and weekend work will be required. Must be available to travel out of state several weeks.
Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of college admission and financial aid process or related expertise
Ability to articulate the benefits of a liberal arts education for women
Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
Time management and organizational skills
Strong computer skills and literacy; experience with Technolutions Slate preferred
Valid driver’s license required.
