SUMMARY:
An exciting opportunity has arisen at Hachette Book Group to fill the position of Vice President, Retail Sales to drive sales and set direction for a team of in-house and field sales professionals responsible for selling physical books to independent bookstores and chains. The ideal candidate will have a track record in growing book sales innovatively and leading teams, as well as a deep knowledge the overall marketplace with an expertise at retail. This professional will foster positive and productive cross-functional relationships within the company and strong customer relationships externally.
The role is NYC based, reports into the EVP of Sales and the candidate will need to be in the office two days a week as part of the hybrid working policy at HBG.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide a vision and strategic direction for the retail sales team, with a focus on growing sales within the channel

Work collaboratively with key accounts to drive efficient growth and opportunities
- Actively mentor, develop and manage a 20+ member team
- Guide strategic decisions on matters including promotional opportunities, sales estimates, inventory and backlist initiatives

Develop strategies to ensure that the flow of information between all stakeholders is direct and efficient.

Set sales goals and analyze sales reports, focusing on key sales priorities, forecast market conditions, etc.

Work with EVP of Sales and Publishers to explore potential new sources of revenue growth
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED:

10 – 15 years of experience in adult publishing, a background in the Retail channel is essential

Proven ability to create retail promotions and develop other strategies to increase sales

Strong account/customer service skills

Proven relationship-building skills internally and externally with diverse stakeholders

Must be a successful leader who has experience motivating in-house and remote (field) teams to achieve results

Ability to understand publishing business models

Strong communication skills (verbal and written) with the aptitude to communicate effectively in both individual and group settings to diverse audiences

Must be results driven, and take appropriate steps to achieve goals while taking ownership of situations as needed

Proven ability to deliver timely, accurate work product and good follow up and follow through

This role is based out of our NY office on a two day per week hybrid schedule.

The compensation range for this position is $160,000- $190,000. Salary can vary based on a number of factors including skills, experience, and location — talk with your recruiter to learn more. There may be times that you will be required (or requested) to work overtime due to the nature of your role or exceptional workload issues or special projects.
