Summary/Objective
Job Summary: The Director of Ticket Sales & Operations for the Boston Symphony Orchestra Inc. is a pivotal position that will be at the center of helping the organization to achieve and surpass its financial objectives through its presentation of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Spring Pops, Tanglewood and Holiday Pops seasons, as well as other programming throughout the year. This role is responsible for rigorous data analysis and insight development; application of those insights to the seasonal programming and financial planning processes; and development of ticket pricing, revenue budgets and forecasts. In additional, this role will create, lead and manage the organization’s approach to ticket sales operations to provide an efficient, effective and positive customer experience at Symphony Hall and Tanglewood as well as on the company’s website. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in data analysis, strategic planning, ticket sales optimization, exceptional leadership skills, and a deep understanding of the live ticketed events industry.
Job Description
Data Analysis and Insight Generation:
Analyze sales data and market trends to identify opportunities for revenue growth and areas for improvement.
Develop comprehensive reports and dashboards to track sales performance and key metrics.
Provide actionable insights and strategic recommendations to senior management based on data analysis.
Strategy Development and Implementation:
Design and implement robust sales strategies aimed at achieving sales targets and business objectives.
Collaborate with marketing and product development teams to align sales strategies with market trends and product offerings.
Performance Monitoring and Optimization:
Monitor ongoing sales performance against strategic targets, adjusting strategies as needed to meet changing market and business needs.
Optimize sales processes and techniques to improve efficiency and effectiveness across the sales team.
Team Collaboration and Leadership:
Training and Development:
Develop training programs for sales staff to enhance their analytical skills and understanding of strategic sales principles.
Mentor and support team members to foster professional growth and operational excellence.
Required Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in business, marketing, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
5-10 years of proven experience in sales, preferably in live ticketed events space, with a successful track record of meeting or exceeding sales targets
Previous box office experience required
Strong analytical knowledge of statistical insights
Solid understanding of sales principles, techniques, and best practices
Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and motivate a team
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with clients and colleagues
