HEAVY EQUIPMENT FIELD MECHANIC
Job Summary
This employee is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of heavy equipment utilized in the heavy civil construction industry.
Duties of this position include but are not limited to:
- Determines equipment condition by conducting inspections and diagnostic tests, identifying worn and damaged parts.
- Keeps equipment available for use by completing preventive maintenance schedules; installing component and part upgrades; completing winterization procedures.
- Maintain, build, and replace hoses for hydraulic systems, and knowledge of hydraulic cylinder repairs.
- Corrects equipment deficiencies by removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, assembling, disassembling, and replacing major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, parts, or systems, such as, power and drive trains, electrical, air conditioning, fuel, emission, brake, steering, hydraulics; completes machine shop operations; making adjustments and alignments including bearing loads, gear tooth contact, valve mechanisms, governors, oil systems, control linkages, clutches, and traction units.
- Verifies equipment performance by conducting test drives; adjusting controls and systems.
- Complies with federal and state vehicle requirements by testing engine, safety, and combustion control standards.
- Maintains equipment appearance by cleaning, washing, and painting.
- Maintains equipment records by annotating services and repairs.
- Keeps shop equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance.
- Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical and regulation publications.
- Enhances maintenance department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
· Should have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
· 5 years’ hands on experience with hydraulic systems.
· 5 years’ hands on experience with diesel engine repair.
· Ability to detect technical malfunctions in the machines.
· Sound understanding of using all repair tools, equipment and testing machinery.
· Ability to deal with complexity.
· Ability to maintain effective working relationships with all employees.
· Functional literacy.
· Attention to detail, confidentiality, thoroughness.
· Communicate with shop foreman and site superintendent.
· Able to complete work order forms.
· Maintain clean work area and follow safety rules.
· Must have a complete set of tools in safe working conditions.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
· Self-motivated individual with effective problem-solving skills and critical thinking ability.
· Bachelor’s degree or an associate degree or diploma in electrical, mechanical or automotive engineering or any other related field of study from an accredited institution.
· Technical degree for diesel mechanic from reputable source.
· Skills and knowledge pertaining to truck repairs.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $19.00 - $40.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 – 55 per week
