Job Description Food Specialist
This job will start off as a temporary position, with the possibility of becoming permanent.
Position Overview: The Food Specialist is responsible for the daily operation of the food program, ensuring compliance with Bureau of Nutrition Guidelines for children aged 2-10 years in our Childcare and School Age programs. This includes meal preparation, maintaining cleanliness, and managing food storage areas.
Daily Duties:
- Prepare a fresh bleach solution each morning.
- Wash hands thoroughly before and after food preparation and serving, or after handling raw meat, using the bathroom use, touching hair, etc...
- Deliver breakfast, including milk and fruit, to each classroom by 9:00 AM.
- Retrieve and sanitize soiled dishes and utensils after each meal.
- Prepare lunch according to Bureau of Nutrition standards, ensuring it is ready within 30 minutes before serving. Keep cold foods refrigerated and hot foods warm until serving.
- Ensure high quality food service by offering a variety of healthy and nutritious foods.
- Deliver covered lunches, including milk and fruit, to each classroom by 11:45 AM, including during school vacation weeks and Summer Fun.
- Sanitize countertops, cabinets, stove, and microwave between meals and at the end of each day.
- Set out afternoon snack before leaving for the day.
- Store foods properly: perishable foods, frozen or refrigerated, and dry products in sealed containers or zip lock bags.
- Keep an inventory of food and related supplies such as paper products, dish soap, and utensils.
Weekly Duties:
- Prepare menus following CACFP Guidelines
- Prepare weekly food and paper products orders, listing quantities and prices on appropriate forms.
- Research cost-effective products.
- Submit menus and orders to Supervisor for review and approval.
- Place food and milk orders with vendors.
- Immediately store delivered food, milk, and paper products.
- Break down and tie delivery boxes, placing them in the proper storage area.
- Place work orders for equipment servicing or repair, or for rodent/insect issues.
- Monitor refrigerator and freezer temperatures.
Other Duties:
- Prepare lunches for field trips as requested.
- Prepare food for East End House special events.
- Communicate with program directors regarding food preparation, menu, and ordering.
- Attend agency trainings and meetings.
- Attend workshops or other service trainings as necessary.
- Renew ServeSafe certification as needed.
- Maintain current CPR and First Aid certification.
- Submit evidence of physical examination and negative TB test every two years.
- Follow agency and Board of Health policies and procedures.
- Adhere to the Ground Rules for Working Together at all times.
Qualificaitons:
- ServeSafe Manager certification, or ability to study and pass the exam within three months of hire
- Food preparation and cooking skills
- Experience in food service and handling
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $20.00 - $23.00 per hour
