Direct Supervisor: Director of Nursing
Job Summary: Provides direct quality care duties for the residents and monitors care of the residents under the direction of the Registered Nurse.

Job Qualifications:
- Current MN License as a Registered Nurse
- Preference given for experience in a geriatric long-term care setting.
- Work effectively with minimal supervision, strong communication skills, and ability to lead a group of people in completing tasks.
- Knowledge of standards of nursing practice and awareness of standards for compliance with state and federal regulations.
Hours of Work: Schedule may vary from pay period to pay period. Rotating and holiday weekends. Block schedules.
Responsibilities:
PUBLIC RELATIONS:
- Completes Marketing duties as assigned by the Administrator.
- Maintains good relations with physicians, clinics, social workers, etc.
- Understands that she/he represents Eldercare of Bemidji in every exchange and strives to do so in a positive manner.
- Understands that excellent customer service is the highest form of public relations and her/his role in providing the highest level of customer service.
RESIDENTS:
- Reports Vulnerable Adult issues to the County and Ombudsman as needed.
- Understands and complies with the responsibilities of a mandated reporter for vulnerable adults.
- Understands and observes the need for strict resident confidentiality.
OPERATIONS:
- Works as a team member and assists with implementation and continuing evaluation of residents’ plan of care, emphasizing rehabilitative nursing and restoration of the resident to his/her full potential for living.
- Coordinates, supervises, and administrates total nursing activities throughout the facility.
- Assisting with admissions and discharges.
- Attending physician rounds along with processing orders.
- Monitors Quality Indicators in conjunction with other nursing management staff
- Complies with facility policies and procedures.
- Communicates with the interdisciplinary team as appropriate.
- Complies with state and federal regulations.
- Works with the Medicare / PPS system.
- Oversees the delivery of care throughout the shift.
- Communicates appropriate information from the shift to management.
- Assists in providing emotional and physical comfort and safety for residents.
- Has complete understanding of basis of infection control and universal precautions to avoid infection of residents and self or contamination of equipment and supplies.
- Adheres to all safety measures and conveys a positive attitude toward safety of self, residents, coworkers, equipment, and supplies.
- Able to control negative emotions and provide care in a therapeutic manner.
- Attends appropriate in-services, facility education programs and staff meetings.
- Has working knowledge of fire regulations and disaster procedures according to facility policies and procedures.
- Reports to work as scheduled and consistently demonstrate dependability and punctuality.
- Utilizes computerized medical record effectively.
- Utilizes wireless call system effectively.
- Assist and intervene emergency situations.

BUDGET:
- Understands the correlation between census and income and that expenses must be reduced in times of low census including adjustment of staff hours.
- Participate in the control of cost-effective services that include proper use of equipment, appropriate use of supplies, and effective, efficient organization of resident care duties.
BUILDING:
- Monitors the facility for general safety throughout the evening shift.
- Reports on safety and environmental hazards.
- Responsible for maintaining work areas and department in a neat and clean manner.
- Responsible for helping to maintain the facility in a safe and clean manner by picking up debris on the floors and wiping up spills.
- Aware of role in disaster plans for the facility and participates in these plans and procedures during drills and actual events.
- Responsible for reporting the need for repairs using the Maintenance Order form.
EMPLOYEES:
- Ensures proper documentation is provided for inclusion in each employee’s personnel file.
- Makes staff replacement calls as necessary.
- Monitors and works with staff regarding resident incidents
- Is a resource for staff
- Provides direct and indirect supervision for all employees on the shift.
- Directs, counsels and disciplines nursing staff as necessary regarding job performance.
- Participates in the orientation of new employees as needed.
- Identifies staffing needs and communicates to the Nurse Manager or director of Nursing.
- Promotes and participates in staff teaching as necessary.
- Completes performance appraisals at least annually or more often as necessary on nursing personnel on the shift.
- Wears Name Tag at all times.
- Reports to work on time each day.
- Completes other duties assigned.
Requirements
