JOB SUMMARY
Welders will join metal components predominantly using a wire feed MIG welder; some TIG and brazing required. Welder will complete metal projects based on customer and/or blueprint specifications. Adheres to good welding practices and safety standards.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Weld together components made from steel, aluminum, stainless steel, bronze and/or iron parts.
- Repair damaged components by adding new material through welding.
- Operate specialized machinery for industrial welding.
- Set up components for welding according to specifications.
- Operate angle grinders to prepare parts that must be welded.
- Align components using calipers, and clamp pieces.
- Test and inspect welded surfaces and structure to discover flaws.
- Monitor equipment for appropriate usage and temperature.
- Monitor work environment for hazards and maintain healthy ventilation levels to avoid particle or gas inhalation.
- Load and unload parts onto and off pallets/skids.
- Follow established housekeeping and safety practices.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum:
· High school diploma or GED required
· 2+ years’ experience.
· Ability to read and comprehend procedures as well as basic arithmetic skills.
· Ability to successfully complete specialized technical training courses.
· Experience using a variety of welding equipment and procedures.
Preferred:
· Specialized welding training.
· Experience in using electric or manual tools.
· Deftness and attention to detail
· Demonstrate ability to work independently.
· Knowledge of relative safety standards and willingness to use protective clothing (face shield, gloves, etc.)
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
· Dexterity: Welders work with their hands and need to be steady during the welding process.
· Strength: Ability to lift and push up to 50 pounds required without physical restrictions.
· Stamina: Ability to work sitting for long periods of time often in hot conditions.
· 20/20 Vision (either naturally or with correction)
POSITION TYPE AND EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK:
This is a full-time status (40 hrs.) position and will be expected to work Monday through Friday during business hours of 6:30am-4:00pm with occasional mandatory overtime.
