Job Description
The Viticulturist is responsible for cultivating and managing grapevines. The primary focus is maximizing grape quality and quantity, ensuring the health and productivity of the vineyard, and optimizing vineyard operations.
Roles and responsibilities include, but are not limitedto:
- Assist in site selection for new vineyards based on soil analysis, climate conditions, and grape variety suitability.
- Develop vineyard plans, including vineyard layout, trellis systems, irrigation systems, and planting schedules.
- Select grape varieties appropriate for the region and market demands.
- Oversee all aspects of vineyard operations, including planting, pruning, training, canopy management, fertilization, irrigation, pest and disease control, and harvesting.
- Oversee daily viticulture operations of multiple vineyard sites in Sonoma, Mendocino, and Marin Counties.
- Assist with managing the Spray Program-Stay within the interval, material inventory, and spray work orders.
- Monitor vineyard health and implement appropriate measures to prevent or mitigate pest and disease outbreaks.
- Implement sustainable farming practices and integrated pest management techniques.
- Monitor and adjust irrigation practices to optimize water usage and grape quality.
- Develop and implement vine nutrition programs to ensure healthy vine growth.
- Collect and analyze data related to vine growth, grape quality, soil composition, weather conditions, and pest and disease incidence. Crew quality control
- Use data analysis tools and techniques to identify trends, make informed decisions, and optimize vineyard management practices.
- Maintain records and databases for vineyard operations and grape production.
-Determine optimal harvest timing based on grape maturity, sugar levels, acidity, and flavor development
-Coordinate and supervise harvest operations, including grape picking, sorting, and transportation
- Stay updated with industry trends, new grape varieties, viticultural techniques, and advancements in vineyard management practices.
- Implement and evaluate new viticultural techniques and technologies in the vineyard.
- Develop and manage vineyard budgets, including labor, equipment, supplies, and other operational expenses.
- Optimize resource allocation to ensure cost-effective and efficient vineyard operations.
- Oversee maintenance and repair of vineyard equipment and infrastructure.
- Manage inventory, schedules, and calendars.
- Manage and supervise the viticulturist assistants, including Scheduling all Vit Interns and Irrigators.
- Turn in paperwork on time (daily timecards for self, crews, and individuals, material usage sheets, etc.)
- Prompt response or call back to Executives, office staff, supervisors, foremen, laborers, clients, and vendors.
- Maintain an open line of communication with employees via radio or .cell phone.
- Participate in industry events, Client winery meetings, seminars, and conferences to enhance professional knowledge and network with peers.
- Lead Safety Committee.
- Notifications to clients, beekeepers, and schools. Quality Control spray calculations and coverage.
- Manage Area Managers in all viticulturist aspects.
- Schedule bi-monthly (full-day) visits to all KL Barr and REVM-owned and leased vineyards.
- Offer clients consultations and vineyard meetings at Tyler’s discretion.
- Manage certification programs such as sustainability, FFF, climate adaption, CCOF, and farm of the future.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $80,000.00 - $120,000.00 per year
