Marblehead Public SchoolsPosition DescriptionJob Title: Assistant Director, Student ServicesDepartment: Student ServicesJob Type: Fulltime, school year (204 days), exemptDirect Supervisor: Assistant Superintendent of Student ServicesUnder the direction of the Assistant Superintendent of Student Services, the Assistant Director of Student Services is responsible for supporting the day-to-day functions of the Districts Special Education programs. The Assistant Director of Student Services is responsible for assisting the Assistant Superintendent of Student Services with hiring, supervising, and evaluating Special Education Team Chairs. The Assistant Director of Student Services ensures compliance with due process laws, practices, and procedures through technical assistance to staff, parents, and others as required. Essential Duties: Provides administrative oversight of District special education programs.
Supports the recruitment and retention of licensed special education staff. Evaluates licensed special education staff in collaboration with building principals.Consults with building principals regarding special education student needs and emergency situations.Supports the renewal of Safety Care training for all staff.Assists the Assistant Superintendent in coordinating and overseeing extended year programs. Assists the Assistant Superintendent in analyzing, developing, evaluating and modifying special education programs to meet the needs of students. Oversees out of district placements, attends team meetings, completes paperwork and communicates with OOD families.Supports the Districts PreK program with team meeting, early literacy and SELCommunicate/send out referral packets to potential placements and facilitate tours, interviews, and application process for OOD familiesCoordinate visits and meet parents/student/staff for intakes and transition meetingsContact placements, outside agencies, and parent/guardian to schedule IEP Team meetingsVisit and monitor student and schools on a periodic basis to maintain understanding of student needs, growth, and placement suitabilityGenerate all IEP paperwork as required by regulation and assemble completed /signed IEP documents for central processing and filingChair/Co-Chair IEP Teams with OOD SchoolsReview, edit, and approve final IEP and transition plans for OOD and Transition Students, shared with Assistant Superintendent of Student Services.Manage the state portal and complete 688 referrals (DDS/MRC/DTS) for qualifying studentsOversee and coordinate the transition planning process with collaboration from High School Special Education Administrator Provide information to parents to prepare them for transitions in educational programmingConduct secondary students Individual Transition Plan Meetings when needed Collect/track attendance, progress reports and grades and monitor OOD student data and progressOversee administration regarding MCAS/ACCESS requirements and accommodations for OOD studentsManage extended school year processes for students placed out of the school districtSubmit transcript packages to MPS for credit checks and planningOversees and reviews graduations requirements for students receiving diplomas from MHS or MA StateCompetency Determination upon completion of services Maintain school district policies and procedures, applicable state and federal laws to ensure compliance and professionalismOrganize daily schedule to meet caseload requirements and uses indirect time appropriatelyResponsible for maintaining licensure and meeting professional development requirements for licensureRoutinely reviews and audits student Individual Education Plans to ensure compliance.
Attends training sessions, conferences, seminars, department and district meetings.Serves on District committees, task forces, work groups, etc., as requested.Keeps abreast of changing developments, trends, instructional and educational technologies. Qualifications/Preferred Skills: Ability to communicate ideas clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.Ability to establish positive working relationships with others and work collaboratively. Time management and the prioritization of activities. Ability to transport self between and among school sites throughout the District, and to regional and state meetings as necessary.
Ability to use technology in an effective manner to facilitate communication and work completion.
