Walker Crane & Rigging Corp., located in Plainville, CT and founded in 1883, specializes in licensed and insured crane service, rigging and machinery moving throughout the northeast. We also provide specialized transportation and heavy hauling throughout the United States.
We are looking for a hardworking, detail-oriented full-time and part-time Heavy Equipment Mechanics to join our team. Our mechanics perform brake service, oil changes, diagnostics, preventative maintenance, basic welding and troubleshoot electrical and drive train components.
As a Heavy Equipment Mechanic, you should be familiar with various repair tools and techniques. In addition to this, you should also be able to work long and flexible hours in, at times, inclement weather conditions.
Responsibilities:
- Inspect heavy equipment and fleet vehicles to ensure they are working properly
- Identify, diagnose and replace faults in heavy equipment and fleet vehicles
- Use computerized testing tools and equipment to conduct diagnostic tests
- Communicate with the equipment and vehicle operators to understand underlying issues
- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance
- Maintain a written record of all daily activities and services performed
- Maintain a clean and safe work area
- Compliance with health and safety protocols and OSHA regulations
Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED
- 2+ years of automotive or heavy truck technician experience
- Ability to diagnose, service and make necessary repairs to heavy equipment and fleet vehicles
- Conduct mechanical, electrical and hydraulic repairs
- Own a set of tools to support most repairs
- Excellent physical dexterity
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work well as a team member and independently
- Strong multitasking and problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Willingness to learn with hands-on training
- Availability to work Monday through Friday and occasional Saturdays when necessary
Preferred but not required skills:
- CDL (Class A or B)
- General 12V knowledge
- Welding and hydraulic knowledge
- Diagnostic software experience
