Women Organizing Resources, Knowledge, and Service – WORKS – was formed in 1998 by a small group of women committed to meaningful action to help disadvantaged families and communities build lives for themselves that work. The founders’ extensive experience in affordable housing, community development, health care, finance, and advocacy convinced them that safe affordable housing was both a fundamental need and, potentially, a springboard for families and individuals to articulate, organize and fulfill their needs and aspirations as part of a larger community.
Today, Women Organizing Resources Knowledge & Services (WORKS) is a nonprofit affordable housing development organization committed to developing strong, sustainable communities and partnering with residents to advance family and individual viability with more than 24 developed properties and a strong reputation in the Los Angeles community.
Position Summary
The Associate Director of Development is integral to the organization’s financial stability and plays a critical role ensuring its fundraising success, including but not limited to the annual giving program. The Associate Director of Development works closely with members of the development and executive departments to develop strategies to ensure growth and success in all fundraising activities.
Essential Position Responsibilities
- Oversee all aspects of the Annual Giving Program including direct mail, setting and tracking of goals, data analysis, crafting of messages, managing external partner, etc.
- Research, create, implement, and manage comprehensive stewardship program to ensure all donors at different levels receive appropriate touches from key staff members. Explore implantation of moves management.
- Cultivate, solicit, and steward event sponsorship and other donors in partnership with the CEO and members of management.
- Manage year end solicitation activities.
- Collaborate with executive management on budget development and monitor department income and expenses
- Manage development activities to ensure accurate and timely gift entry in donor database, including processing of acknowledgement letters, tracking of donor activity, regular and accurate queries and reports, and integration between development software systems
- Generate reports, both regularly scheduled and on an as-needed basis
- Closely collaborate with the CEO and members of management to ensure regular reconciliations and efficient communication
- Work closely with executive management and potential external vendors to query, segment, and manage lists for electronic communications/solicitations, events, and other donor/prospect activities
- Draft and prepare correspondence including acknowledgement letters, tribute cards, and event related acknowledgements
- Maintain a portfolio of major gifts ($10,000+) prospects to cultivate, solicit, and steward to achieve desired fundraising goals
- Conduct donor research and create a solicitation plan for individual donors.
- Oversee the Corporate Giving Program, identifying, researching, cultivating, and soliciting new corporate partners
- Solicit individual gifts in support of events
- Manage the donor recognition program
- Assure compliance with all policies, procedures, standards, and applicable regulatory requirements
- Oversee special events and fundraising projects

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in fundraising/development work for a nonprofit organization
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, especially Word and Excel
- Experience using nonprofit fundraising or other database software
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
DESIRABLES:
- Experience in a nonprofit setting, preferably in a Development department
- Friendly and outgoing personality

- Ability to work effectively and graciously with diverse donors, volunteers, and staff to build and maintain successful relationships

- Ability to bend, stoop, twist and lift 15 pounds

Salary Range
Preferred Hiring Range: $75,000 to $85,000; Hiring rates are determined by skills, knowledge, experience, and internal equity.
