This position is a seasonal Parks Maintenance Technician 1 position which is a full-time, benefited, Career Service position. Employment is generally consistent with Parks’ most active times of the year, typically March through December. This position is eligible for Union membership. Reemployment is contingent upon job performance/evaluation, continued funding of the program, and other acceptable County procedures.

Demonstrate willingness to learn and perform all of the specialized maintenance tasks associated with the position. Meet performance expectations of the position and support Heritage Recreation Center/South Region Team in whatever capacity necessary to achieve stated goals and objectives.
Your Future in this Role:
You will work as part of a team that operates, maintains, and repairs the infrastructure of the Pierce County Parks system. Your work will be instrumental in providing Pierce County residents with safe and enjoyable parks and facilities. Success in this position also offers a great foundation for future professional growth within the Parks and Recreation Department.
Core Daily Responsibilities:

General Park maintenance duties such as opening/closing facilities, grounds maintenance, turf mowing, garbage/litter pick up and disposal, cleaning park restrooms and facilities, site and structure inspections, maintenance and repair, and vandalism repair.

Performs specialized maintenance of athletic fields, as well as daily upkeep of a variety of different landscapes throughout the park.

Seasonal irrigation maintenance and repair.
Core Strategic Responsibilities:

Perform specialized athletic field maintenance on natural and synthetic turf, including irrigation, inspection, troubleshooting and repair, and operation of various power tools and specialized equipment based on weather and physical condition of fields.

Proficiency in using an automated Work Order system to retrieve assignments and document work performed.

- Additional education or training may substitute for up to one year of related experience.

Two or more years work experience in parks maintenance, landscaping, golf course grounds keeping, construction, or maintenance trades.

Work a flexible schedule, which most often includes evenings, weekends, and holidays at any location.
Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in irrigation

Experience with the maintenance of athletic fields

Experience with large mowing equipment and tractor operation
Possession of, or the ability to obtain may be required for some positions:

Valid Washington State Driver's license

Valid First Aid Certification including CPR

Valid Washington State Pesticide License

Satisfactory physical condition is required as indicated by a County-approved physical examination.
