Atlantic Fish and Seafood is a national supplier/partner of seafood to major retailers, distributors, institutional food service and restaurant chains located across the United States. We source, process, and distribute for some of the world’s best seafood brands, and we produce the number one selling stuffed claim and breaded seafood under our Matlaw’s and Schooner brands. Atlantic Fish & Seafood’s production facility is SQF, MSC, GF, ASC certified.
Position Summary
This is a newly created leadership position that will play an active role transitioning us to a digital quality management system, and drive process improvements and deliver Quality and Food Safety programs. This role works with all plant personnel to ensure the proper and effective management of food safety and quality.
Essential Duties
- Work with QA and Plant Management to design, implement, and train employees on a new digital Quality Management Systems Platform.
- Participate in internal /external audits and find opportunities for continuous improvement in food safety and quality programs.
- Review key performance indicators (KPIs) of fundamental food safety programs / HACCP pre-requisites, and report on effectiveness of these programs / systems.
- Actively participate in HACCP team meetings.
- Assists with all 3rd party and government agency audits (USDC, FDA, SQF, MSC/ASC, Gluten Free).
- Work with cross-functional team to investigate problems (internal or/and external quality failures), identify root cause(s), and develop and implement corrective actions.
- Schedule and coordinate annual mock exercises on crisis management, recall, food defense, etc. to assess the effectiveness of these plans.
- Review supplier documents (Quality Assurance, food safety or certification, letters of Guarantee, Specifications) to ensure they are current and relevant to our food safety concerns.
- Assist in maintaining the Hold system and managing non-conforming material-Hold and Release.
- Assist the QA Director and Production management in tracking trends in non-conforming paperwork, products or customer complaints.
- Inspect maintenance repairs within food handling and processing areas to ensure the repair work, installation and setting is consistent with GMP standards.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Understanding of current GMPs (21 CFR 110 and or 21 CFR 117 subpart b), Quality Assurance concepts and Best Practices.
- Good understanding of SQF code or other GFSI Food safety, and how to apply this knowledge to achieve / maintain SQF food safety code compliance within the company setting and regulatory framework.
- Knowledge of HACCP with experience identifying potential hazards (all categories) when considering changes in process, process flow or ingredients.
- Must be fluent in spoken and written English. Bilingual (English / Spanish) is preferred.
- Must be proficient in MS Word and Excel with an interest data management software / platform.
- Experience of Quality Assurance or Quality Control in an FDA regulated food environment.
- Bachelor of Science degree in Food Science, Food Safety, or food microbiology.
- Strong organization and time management skills.
- Flexible and able to adapt to a rapidly changing work environment.
Education
- High-School Diploma or equivalent experience.
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred.

Pay: $75,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
