POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for procurement of all materials coming into the company, including finished and semi-finished product, raw material, packaging, manufacturing supplies, machinery and utilities. Directs activities of the buying team to ensure stock status across all parts is maintained appropriately. Ensures all products conform to engineering documents, policies, procedures, work instructions, and quality system requirements. Coordinates with various third parties to perform value added work on Dexter product.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for maintaining critical parameters and ensuring the integrity of the data in company information systems (e.g. total replenishment lead-time, optimal order quantity, service stock, purchase order/requisition dates, etc.).
- Establishes purchasing policies and ensures compliance.
- Identify current and potential inventory shortages, develop and execute recovery plans, coordinate throughout the supply chain, and communicate status to internal customers (e.g. stock-outs, at-risk, etc.).
- Lead special projects of varying complexity, magnitude, and impact to the organization.
- Investigates and recommends new sources of supply that will provide maximum value to the company and to the customer.
- Accountable for meeting and exceeding metrics (e.g. inventory levels, stock-outs, past due purchase orders, etc.).
- Maintain target service levels and inventory turns for items.
- Participate in lean supply chain initiatives and identify improvement opportunities.
- Lead projects with internal cross functional groups.
- Oversee the development of specifications for equipment, products or substitute materials.
- Evaluates vendors based on price, reliability, capability, and previous transaction history.
- Analyze market and delivery systems to assess present and future material availability.
- Works with vendors to negotiate volume and cash transaction discounts, and other available discounts.
- Exhibit positivity, flexibility, creativity, and a willingness to take on new responsibilities as required.
- Travels to domestic and international suppliers as required.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in Supply Chain Management, Business Management, or Engineering Master’s preferred.
- 8+ years of purchasing experience required.
- 2+ years of supervisory experience required.
- APICS certification preferred.
- Six Sigma/Lean a plus.
- Strong critical thinking/analytical skills.
- Ability to identify issues and develop solutions.
- Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills.
- Exceptional personal organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and follow up as necessary.
- Excellent teamwork, cross-functional collaboration, and communication skills.
- Extensive experience with ERP/MRP systems.
- Proficient in Windows (Microsoft Excel, Power Point, Outlook, and Word).
