The Calais School is a state-approved provider of special education for students with special needs. The school serves students in grades K – 12+ with multiple learning disabilities. The Calais School is seeking a dedicated and compassionate County College Liasion to work part time to provide support, assistance and executive functioning skills to our students with special needs. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring that students with diverse learning needs have access to the resources and assistance required for a successful college experience. They will help students to set goals, prioritize their responsibilities, organize their time, and develop better homework and study habits, and provide support and accountability, by helping students to stay on track. This is 3 days per week and approximate hours are from 9am - 2pm.
Duties:

Assist students and families with the application process, including entrance exams, selecting and registering courses

Collaborate with the Disability Services Office to implement and monitor accommodations for special needs students.

Assist in communication with professors and ensure a smooth learning environment.

Develop and implement programs to empower special needs students to advocate for themselves.

Organize and lead workshops on study skills and time management skills.

Track the academic progress of special needs students and provide regular updates
to relevant stakeholders. -
Provide guidance to students and parents on available resources, academic requirements, and other aspects of college life.

Collaborate with on campus tutoring services to enable students to overcome academic challenges.
Requirements:
Education:
- BA/BS, Associate's Degree or Higher
- Substitute Teacher Certification, required (we will assist you in attaining this if you do not already have it).
Experience:
- Related experience in equipping students with improved time management and study methods, implementing
organizational strategies, and improving executive function skills.
- Ability to promote an inspiring learning experience and to mentor strong, encouraging, and positive relationships amongst students.
- Experience with special education students a plus
