The Apprentice is responsible for performing assigned tasks to assist a Journeyman Electrician, Mechanic or Project Foreman and executes those assignments under close supervision according to national electrical code and safety policies as outlined in company policy.
Work will be performed as it applies to installation, alterations, additions and/or repairs of electrical systems, conductors and associated materials and equipment customarily installed within the commercial and industrial electrical construction industries. All work must be completed in compliance with the requirements of the National Electrical Code and other state and local building codes, as applicable. Tasks will vary depending on the apprenticeship level.
There are four (4) levels of Apprentices. At each level the Apprentice must complete 2,000 hours of electrically related work as identified in the Specific Job Responsibilities section and participate in on-the-job training. Additionally, at each level the Apprentice must attend 150 hours of formal classroom instruction each school year and achieve a minimum passing grade of 70.
The four (4) levels of Apprentices are identified below:
Level 1 Apprentice – Little knowledge of electrical theory and limited electrical
experience (up to approximately 12 months)
Level 2 Apprentice – Basic knowledge of electrical theory and a minimum of thirteen
(13) to twenty-four (24) months of hands-on experience
Level 3 Apprentice – General knowledge of electrical theory and a minimum of
twenty-four (24) to thirty-six (36) months of hands-on experience. Is able to read and utilize blueprints and has limited knowledge of the National Electrical Code
Level 4 Apprentice – Has a working knowledge of electrical theory and a minimum of
thirty-six (36) months of hands-on experience. Is able to read and utilize blueprints and has a working knowledge of the National Electrical Code
